Six new affordable classical guitars and two acoustic-electric basses are being introduced into the reconstructed lineup of the G Series Classical range.
Takamine Guitars are having a major catalog reconstruction and the G series is a big part of it. G series Classics range is being reconstructed this time. The old lineup is being retired and a brand new line of six acoustic and acoustic-electric classical guitars is being unveiled, as well as a smaller, two-model line of acoustic-electric basses based on the six-string series. Six string models introduced are: GC1, GC1CE, GC3, GC3CE, GC5 and GC5CE. Bass models are: GB30CE and GB72CE. These models feature well known Takamine quality of build and tone and reasonable pricing.
Takamine GC1 comes with a standard classical body made of laminated mahogany and laminated spruce. There are no excessive decorations, nor the hardware features somewhat standard and expected gold plating. Rosewood bridge is paired with a standard flat 19-fret rosewood fingerboard. Takamine GC1CE is the acoustic-electric variant of the formerly reviewed GC1 model. It features laminated mahogany and spruce on the body in combination with mahogany neck. Rosewood bridge and rosewood fingerboard have synthetic bone saddle/nut. Electronics department is equipped with a TP-E preamp. 25-3/5” scale, 2” string nut and die-cast tuners wrap the specs. Takamine GC3 is the medium model in this new lineup and it features laminated mahogany back and sides in combination with a solid spruce sound board. This results in a stronger, snappier tone. Regular compensated rosewood bridge and 19-fret rosewood fingerboard are featured on this one, as well. Mahogany neck is attached with a 12th fret dovetail joint. Takamine GC3CE features the same materials as the standard GC3 model, but comes with a single-cut body and Takamine preamp installed on the side. Laminated mahogany back and sides are topped with a solid spruce sound board and paired with a mahogany neck. 19-fret rosewood fingerboard with flat radius is installed on top of the neck. Takamine GC5 is the top model of the new lineup and it features rosewood back and sides, along with a spruce sound board. On the top, it features the series standard compensated rosewood bridge and a mosaic rosette. Neck on this model is made of mahogany and it is topped with a 19-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. Takamine GC5CE is an acoustic-electric version of the series flagship model, the GC5. These two share the majority of specs, materials and hardware. Exception is that this one comes in single-cut version of the classical body shape and is equipped with a high quality TP-4T preamp. Takamine GB30CE is the first of two acoustic-electric basses introduced along with the Classical series. It comes with a single-cut body made of mahogany and spruce. Black and Natural color schemes are both finished in gloss and fit with chrome hardware. Compensated rosewood bridge, mahogany neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard and TK-40B preamp wrap the specs. Takamine GB72CE is the eighth and final model reviewed in this article. I features flamed maple, instead of mahogany back and sides. On the top, there is the series standard spruce sound board. Electronics department is fit with a TK-40B preamp with equalizer and chromatic tuner. mahogany neck with a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard is also featured on this model.
