Taylor Introduces Grand Orchestra Shape

Three new limited edition models are being unveiled.

Taylor Introduces Grand Orchestra Shape

Taylor Guitars introduce three models into the acoustic-electric range, in order to promote the new grand orchestra body contour.

Taylor Guitars introduce the fifth body contour into their acoustic and acoustic-electric segment of the catalog. It comes with three models with limited quantities. Grand orchestra is a body contour that started it`s life as an idea to revoice the jumbo contour, which has long time been one of the mainstays of the catalog. But, instead of refreshed jumbo, Taylor brought up a completely new body contour. Taylor`s master luthier Andy Powers designed this orchestra with wide shoulders, narrow waist and wide, rounded bottom. Compared to dreadnought, grand orchestra body is a bit longer, narrower in the waist and wider at the bottom. Also, it`s deeper and equipped with it`s own bracing pattern. These features make sure that this guitar satisfies equally the pick strummers and fingerstyle players. Low end is as strong as on the dread and the mid and high register are also strong, clear, well defined and equally loud.  Names of the models are 518e, 618e and 918e.

Taylor 518e is the basic of three grand orchestra models introduced for 2013 NAMM in Anaheim. It comes with tropical mahogany back and sides with solid sitka spruce sound board on top. Also, there are alternative wood options for the top panel. Beneath it Taylor installs hybrid bracing. Ebony bridge is equipped with TUSQ saddle and ebony pins. Standard Taylor Expression System is featured in the electronics area. Tropical mahogany is used once more, now for the neck. On it`s top, there`s a 20-fret ebony fingerboard. Gold-plated Taylor tuners, 25-1/2" scale, glossy finish and tortoise binding complete the specs list. MSRP is set at $3,518. Taylor 618e is the intermediate of the three models introduced as the promotion for the new grand orchestra body contour. All grand orchestras are marked with number 18. Body of this model is made of big leaf maple back and sides with solid sitka spruce top. Alternative tonewoods are available with extra charge. Also, a wide palette of solid and sunburst color options is available. They all cost additional $400. Bridge is made of ebony and it`s equipped with TUSQ saddle and ebony string pins. Expression System covers the electronics department. Tropical mahogany neck is topped with a 20-fret ebony fingerboard. MSRP for this model is set at $3,798.
