Yamaha expands the catalog with some of the best and most interesting models unveiled at this year`s Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.
Yamaha ranks as one of the top manufacturers in the guitar industry with it`s huge and versatile catalog. From affordable acoustics and electrics to custom shop quality instruments, everything is covered. Also, style-wise, there`s a Yamaha for every genre and style of music. 2013 brings one of the most interesting updates lineups introduced at this year`s Frankfurt Musikmesse. Four electric basses introduced are all coming from the TRBX series. Their names are: TRBX 304, TRBX 305, TRBX 504 and TRBX 505. Two electrics are being introduced into the iconic Pacifica series and their names are PAC611VFM and PAC1611MS. PAC1611MS is a signature model made for the legendary jazz player Mike Stern. One classical electric model introduced at this year`s Musikmesse is NTX700. ATPX 2 is a 3/4 scaled acoustic-electric. GL1 is a nylon-stringed guitalele and APX500II is a regular acoustic-electric guitar.
Yamaha TRBX 304 opens up the review section of this article and it is also the most basic of four electric basses introduced into the Yamaha catalog this year. It is a solid-bodied bass with double-cut mahogany body. Bolt-on neck is made of five pieces of maple and mahogany and it features a comfy slim contour in the back. 24-fret rosewood fingerboard is on it`s top. High mass bridge features black nickel plating and top load construction. Humbucking pickups are installed in it`s front in both the bridge and neck positions. Yamaha TRBX 305 is the five-string variant of the 304 model. Basically, these two are the same, have the same body, same neck, bridge and pickups. Only 305 has an extra string for all the players who feel four strings just aren`t enough. Solid, double-cut body is made of mahogany and has the characteristic TRBX design and Spartan styling. Bridge section sports a five-saddled high-mass bridge with black nickel plating. MBH3 humbuckers are featured in the front. Yamaha TRBX 504 is the four-stringed variant from the 500 line of the TRBX series. It features a solid, double-cut body made of mahogany. Standard four-saddled high mass bridge is fronted by a pair of humbucking pickups with active/passive switching option. Bolt-on maple neck is made of five pieces of maple and mahogany and it is topped with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. Yamaha TRBX 505 is the flagship of the TRBX fleet. It comes with a solid, double-cut mahogany body with carved top. Stripped down styling leaves only what`s needed, discarding all dead weight. Five-string consturction, standard 34" scale, mahogany body, combined maple/mahogany body and super versatile humbuckers make this bass one of the most desirable five-stringers on the market. Yamaha PAC611VFM is a Strat-like double-cut guitar loaded with two classic Seymour Duncan pickups. Bridge position features the TB-14 humbucker, while the neck position is reserved for the P-90 single-coil. Behind them, Yamaha installs a Wilkinson non-locking trem bridge with string-through construction. Body of this exceptional Pacifica guitar is made of alder base with flame maple top. Yamaha PAC1611MS is a Telecaster-like signature model made for the legendary jazz guitarist Mike Stern. This model neatly combines Telecaster`s iconic features with Yamaha`s tone and Mr Stern`s specs. Solid body is made of ash and it`s paired with a bolt-on maple neck. Slanted Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup is paired with a '57 humbucker in the neck position. 22-fret fingerboard on top of the neck is made of maple. Yamaha NTX700 is a classical-electric guitar with single-cut body and System 61 amplification. Standard classical body is made of nato back and sides with solid spruce sound board on top. System 61`s preamp is mounted onto the side of the body, facing the player. It contains all the essential controls. Neck on this model is made of nato and it`s topped with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets. Yamaha GL1 is a unique model, which tries to pack the regular classical guitar into a short 17" scale. This one`s fully acoustic and has non-cutaway construction. Meranti is used for back and side panels, wwwhile the top is made of spruce. Black binfing around the top is the only decoration. Classical rosewood bridge is equipped with six string mounts, instead of ukulele`s standard four. Thus, the nato neck might look a bit too fat. It is topped with an 18-fret rosewood fingerboard. Yamaha APX50II is the only regular-sized steel-string acoustic guitar. In fact, it is acoustic-electric with single-cutaway construction and 21-fret fingerboard. System 65`s preamp is mounted onto the standard position on the side of the body. Nato neck is attached with a dovetail joint and it`s topped with a rosewood fingerboard. Yamaha APTX2 is the second of two short-scaled guitars reviewed in this article. It is an acoustic-electric guitar with single cutaway and 22 frets. Standard scale is shortened to it`s 3/4 variant for this gorgeous six-stringer. White binding and elegant rosette decorate the body of this model.
