YM68 is a steel stringed signature model unveiled at the NAMM by Yngwie Malmsteen and Ovation Guitars. It is a twin brother of nylon stringed YM63 and shares a lot of common features with it. The reason for both model to appear at once is the versatility, as some players prefer the strength of tone made by steel strings, while the others enjoy the subtlety of nylon strings. YM68 Steel String shares the body specs with YM63, and therefore comes with a mahogany body and cedar top. The back is arched and rounded in famous Ovation fashion. The top is flat, bound in white and adorned with two "f" holes. The color available for this model is red. The bridge is made of walnut, with black pins and white saddle. In the pickup department, Ovation OCP-1K commands the situation with help of Ovation Viper 3-band preamp with side-mounted controls. Just like on YM63, the neck on YM68 is made of five pieces of mahogany and maple. The fingerboard is made of the best ebony available to Ovation luthiers and is equipped with 22 frets with diamond position inlays. 25-1/4" completes the list of features for YM68 Steel String.
