GC series belongs to the Acoustic segment of Taylor Guitars catalog. It features five concert-shaped guitars with no electronics installed on them. The series is opened by GC3 model which comes with non-cutaway variant of the concert body. Natural color is the only option available for this model and it is finished in a combination of satin and gloss finish. Chrome is the color of choice for the hardware and Taylor tuners installed on the headstock feature it. Back and sides of the body are made of sapele, while the top is made of spruce. Sapele is often used for the entry level models in Taylor catalog. Standard ebony bridge is featured on this model, as well. Mahogany-made neck is equipped with a 20-fret fingerboard made of ebony, which matches the ebony bridge.

While guitar is not my primary instrument, I knew I wanted a good solid wood guitar for awhile. One day, I went into a music store to window-shop while visiting family. The salesman gave me a Taylor Grand Concert to play on, and he told me it was just my size (I'm 5'2"). It was beautiful, was very comfortable to play, and sounded amazing. I thanked the salesman and left. I kept that guitar in my mind as I began the search for my own Taylor a few months later. I ultimately decided on the GC3 since I love the look of no pickguard. Since Taylor had discontinued the GC3 by this point, I was able to find a gently used guitar on eBay for a good price. Since this model was manufactured as acoustic only, the previous owner had installed a simple, battery-operated acoustic-electric pickup inside the guitar. May I say that this guitar was one of the best purchases I have ever made. The action is perfect and feels very good on my fingers. I barely have to press on the strings to fret. The sound is rich and sweet from bass to treble. The strings sound wonderful both fingerpicked and strummed. Judging from the installed pickup, it does not appear to be difficult to set up if you desire to plug it into an amp, and the pickup works very smoothly when the guitar is plugged in. It is comfortable, versatile, and a joy to play in a variety of settings, whether at home on the couch, around a campfire, or on stage with a full band. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone who simply enjoys playing the guitar and who is looking for a simple, great sounding guitar to play. Buy it and play it, you won't regret it!
