There are three main styles of neck joints for solid electric basses and guitars. The first one and the most populous is the bolt-on neck joint. It comes in many variations and is considered the weakest of three. It is affordable, easy to maintain and fix. Second one is the set in neck joint and it is the intermediate option in both the terms of quality, stability and the class of models it is usually featured on. Both bolt-on and set in joints can, however, be featured on upscale models. The third one is the neck-through-body, which is the upscale option reserved for the top models.
