After the introduction of their first solid-body, the cult Les Paul, Gibson introduced several other solids throughout the decade. As the decade drew to its close, Les Paul`s initial success began to fade and some changes were needed in the catalog. The futuristic Modernist series failed badly, as it was way ahead of its time but the 1958 ES-335 with semi hollow construction immediately struck a chord with the guitar players of the time and it never went out of production. Even today, the 335 is the standard by which the semi hollows or Electric Spanish guitars, as they`re named by Gibson, are measured and positioned on the market. 1963 was the key year for the ES-335, as it was the first big update of the popular semi - it received block inlays and several other features which stuck to this very day. The 2015 1963 ES-335TD is a tribute to the 1963 335, the second incarnation of this legendary six-stringer. Semi-hollow nd double-cut body of this model comes with laminated maple/poplar/maple three-layered back, sides and top. black plastic pickguard and "f" holes are featured on the 2015 model, just as they were present on the 1963 version. But, similarities and historically accurate features do not stop there. Two-piece hardtail bridge is featured on the top, and in its front a pair of vintage-sounding MHS humbuckers is featured. One-piece mahogany neck has the same 1963 profile and the sixties truss rod on the inside. It`s topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, low profile frets and bone nut. Kluson vintage tuners wrap up the specs list.
