Les Paul Gothic Morte is actually a Studio LP with black paint job and black hardware. It kicks off with a mahogany body with plain maple top. Since it is based on the latest Studio, it features chambered base. Gibson does it for two reasons. The first is to reduce the weight of the body and the second is that it benefits the tone. Entire body is painted in black and finished in nitrocellulose gloss. There is no binding around the top. Mahogany neck is set in and it features the classic '50s contour in the back. On top, there`s a 22-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. There are no inlays on the fingerboard. Gibson`s special GEM active humbuckers with open coil design are installed on this model.
