Select Ultra Swede Quilt is a model from the Select series of the Hagstrom`s catalog. this series offers exclusive variants of the standard Hagstrom models. One of them is also the Select Ultra Swede Quilt model. It comes with a single-cut body, carved top, set in neck, 24-3/4" scale, 22-fret fingerboard and chrome hardware. The body of this model is solid, carved on top and made of mahogany back with maple top. All three color schemes are finished in gloss and have quilted maple tops. Two-piece bridge section features the tune-o-matic bridge with Hagstrom`s tailpiece in the back. Active humbucking pickups are also made by Hagstrom. Set in neck on this six-stringer is made of mahogany and it is topped with a 22-fret resinator fingerboard.

I love the flamed mapel top and the way its book matched. The pick ups are hot but not over the top. Some say the tuners are cheap and need replacing but I havent found that as yet. The coil tap is a brilliant feature and this guitar is perfect for rock and blues. With the pick ups tapped I find some nice jazz tones. I bought the guitar second hand and the owner said he had set it up for his son. It felt ok but had some sharp fret ends and a few string buzzes. I took it International Music in Toowoomba and it came back beautiful. Nothing seems to be rusting or coroding yet and yes. I gig without a back up. I have never even broken a string on this baby. The finish on the back of the neck was so thick that my sweaty hand kept sticking to it so I gave it a light rub with some 2000 grit sandpaper. Now it's super fast and my hand slides freely. The only minor problem I have had with this guitar is that the nut came slightly unglued but a small care Now that its sep up properly it is a fantastic axe. I would replace it in a heart beat. For $800au it was a steal. I am very happy with this guitar. I like the variation in sounds that I can get. The asthetics are fantastic

Amazingly enough I found my SL-2 Select Ultra Swede unceremoniously stuck in a corner of our local pawn shop behind rows and rows of old and worn out Jay Turser,,Vantage etc. Strat copies.The guitar was filthy and had 5 rusty strings and they only wanted just over $200 for the guitar and a near mint Hagstrom premium hardshell case.Once I took the guitar home and gave it a meticulous cleaning,polishing and new strings,I was amazed of the near mint condition of it,even though it had been neglected for at least 3 years.The beautiful Nordic Blonde quilt maple cap had one of the most perfectly symmetrical bookmatching jobs I have ever seen-simply spectacular.When I plugged this guitar into my Vox AC-15 she simply crooned and cooed at lower volumes,yet when I gave the amp a bit of dirt,she handled it superbly and when I really overdrove the amp,she wailed like a banshee.I have 2 '60s vintage Hagstroms as well-a '63 Corvette and a '65 Hagstrom II,I'm pleased that first rate quality,sublime playability and tone are still very important with the people who have resurrected that somewhat quirky but always stellar guitar brand.
