S970W is a model from the newly established S Premium series and it is it`s current top model. It is a soloist-shaped guitar with a standard S series double cutaway design. The boy is made of mahogany base and luxurious claro walnut top. Top is carved and bound in white binding. Pickguard is scratched off from the specs list as it would cover the splendid walnut top. Color palette is restricted to natural color with gloss finish, for more than obvious reasons. Cutaways on this, and all S models are softer than on RG, and combined with carved bodies make much more sophisticated and elegant impression. Bridge section on this model is equipped with ZR2 double locking bridge. This one is, as all locking bridges on Ibanez guitars, developed and made by Ibanez. Pickups, however may, or may not be made by Ibanez. This particular model does feature a set of passive Ibanez pickups i H/S/H configuration. They are controlled through a standard master volume, master tone and five-position blade switch. Neck is made of five pieces of maple and walnut and it`s bolted to the body. Neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets, dot inlays, 15.75" radius and 1.69" wide string nut.

I recently purchased this guitar online and was not pleased with it at all. First, the positive- the neck is very flat and very fast. Now for the negatives- fit and finish is horrible. I had 6 frets that were slightly lifted, the binding was extremely sloppy and looked like a 5 year old had done it, the jack cavity finishing was only half done, the pickups were covered with wax drips, multiple clearcoat blemishes, and finally all pics of this guitar online make it look nice and kinda pricey looking. In person though, this guitar looks and feels cheap. Everyone that saw it was very surprised that I would own this instrument because of how cheap it looks. I returned this guitar immediately and purchased an s5470 prestige- which I might add is almost double the price of this guitar but is in a completely different league than the s970. I have been playing for 22 years and currently own 18 other guitars and would not think about putting another s970 in my guitar room. Please take my advice and steer clear of this guitar- Ibanez should not be rewarded for having such poor quality in their premium line. There is nothing premium about this guitar.
