McCarty Korina Signature is a model dedicated to the late Mr Ted McCarty, the former president of Gibson Guitars. He was at the helm in their most important and most crucial period, between 1949 and 1966. An engineer, inventor and designer behind many models, pieces of hardware and construction solutions, Mr McCarty contributed a lot to Les Paul models, tune-o-matic bridge, development of humbucking pickups, designs of Explorer, Flying V and Firebird. Without his immeasurable input, the world of electric guitars would not exist as we now know it. Similar to Mr Leo Fender, Ted McCarty was not a guitarist himself. In 1994, seven years before Mr McCarty`s death, PRS guitars launched the signature series named by one of the true greats of the electric guitar world. These were, paradoxically, the first models named after him. Today, there are several McCarty models and McCarty Korina Signature belongs to the signature section of the catalog. It is a solid double-cut guitar with body made completely of korina wood. It is carved on top and finished in high gloss. Bridge section features a gold-plated wrap around bar. It is fronted by a pair of McCarty active humbuckers. Master volume, master tone and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls unit. Set in korina neck is topped with 22-fret rosewood fingerboard.
