I bought my Ric 340 -12 (mapleglow) in 2007 and I have played it almost daily since then. I love my 340 and only have two issues with it: (1) The guitar finish, especially where my forearm strikes the edge of upper bout seems too soft and wore off too quickly ( I had to steel wool it down to the wood and feather in four coats of gloss polyurethane... it looks OK but is still, in the right light, a visible repair to the finish). (2) Relative to that same portion of the body, the square edge makes the 340 guitar somewhat uncomfortable to play for an extended period of time. (that would be enough call, for me at least, to upgrade to a 370 which offers that softer edged rounded body). Rickenbacker no longer makes the 340, so they are limited in number, adding value due to rarity. The workmanship of the guitar is immaculate and the construction is very solid. The variable tonal voice of the Ric high gain pups is still amazes me. The guitar stays in tune, especially in kept in the same studio space and not moved from different environments and temperatures. I own five Fender strats, Fender Jazz bass, two Gibsons, and a Michael Kelly Patriot Lowboy baritone. My Ric remains my standard first line of defense. I play rhythm guitar for a local Austin rock band and lead vocals. The Ric 340 - 12 seems custom fit for this role.
Great guitar and a must have if you are playing any Birds or Petty. I bought mine in the mid to late 80's and there is not a scratch on it.
