300 series from Rickenbacker is the basic line of the electric guitars made by this legendary brand. Some of the models from this series have been introduced forty and fifty years ago and are still as competitive as ever. Flagship spot for 300 series belongs to the luxurious 380L model. It comes with a double-cut body with semi-acoustic construction, 24-fret fingerboard, set in neck joint and standard 24-3/4" scale. Body of this six-string marvel is made of walnut and it is paired with a standard maple neck. Instead of the standard two-piece bridge, Rickenbacker installs a hardtail bridge on the top of the body. Two single-coil pickups are installed in the front. Maple neck is topped with a standard 24-fret fingerboard made also of maple.

I bought a 2001 380L, from a 600 Guitar collection, it was purchased and hidden away and looks to have never been used, it even smells new. I was on the fence as I've always been told Ric's are just not versatile, that's USA misnomer, and could not be further from the truth. The sounds off this Ric are intoxicating, clean dreamy lows, that are beefy and deep, great action, holds tune with issues and how it feels when holding it, just beautiful. The build quality is outstanding, in the light tone walnut, this calls you to play. I was worried that from age the electronics/knobs would have static or be scratchy, perfect, no issues. Amps, VOX modeling and AC 30, Fender Twin Reverb/68, this Ric comes alive. It was missing the Rick-O-Sound, I have bought one and waiting for it to show, the will try it on my Fender SFX and split with the other AMPS. You can play it without an Amp, but not much sound. If playing in quite mode, I use Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pros, on the VOX modeling, and the sound will blow you away, while I have a headphone Amp, it's too much, as it amps up the white noise. Would have liked to had a little more sound, not using an Amp, but with using cans, it's a mute point. I included a family photo of my gear, with exception to a 1960 Gibson ES being used as studio decor and not played. On the Ric 380L, just about perfect, tho one more pick up would have been nice.
