Gibson USA is unveiling two brand new models, one is 2012 incarnation of the legendary Les Paul Standard and the other is signature Flying V made for Grace Potter.
Gibson USA is heading full steam ahead a summer warms up this year. Two novelties introduced this time combine the tradition and modern in the best way possible. Their names are 2012 Les Paul Standard and Grace Potter Flying V. This new Les Paul really sets the standards for the future generations of players and guitars they will play. Just the right amount of tradition and vintage is kept on this model to be a legitimate Standard and everything else has been updated and modernized for this model to face the 21st century with proper arsenal at it`s disposal. Grace Potter`s signature Flying V is the latest addition to the signature family of Gibson USA. This model comes with modern pickups and construction.
Gibson 2012 Les Paul Standard is a regular LP. Only at first glance. Tonal hyper-versatility is the standard of the new Standard. Burstbucker Pro Lead and Burstbucker Pro Rhythm pickups are controlled with split volume and tone knobs with each featuring a push/pull knobs which enable coil splitting, phase reversing with myriad combinations and possibilities. Body is made of chambered mahogany back and carved maple top. Eleven color options are available for this model, enough to suit everyone`s taste. Some of the traditional features include 24-3/4" scale, mahogany neck with slim taper contour and rosewood fingerboard. Also, tune-o-matic bridge with stoptail bar and Grover tuners are there. Fingerboard has 22 frets and1.695" wide corian nut. But, the fingerboard radius is a brand new feature, for it starts with 10 inches at the nut and widens to 16 inches towards the bridge. Gibson Grace Potter Flying V is the second model reviewed in this article and it represents the beginning of the collaboration between Gibson Guitars and Grace Potter of the band The Nocturnals. This V comes with a classic shaped body and it`s made of mahogany. This body is paired with a mahogany neck through a traditional mortise & tenon joint. Electronics include Burstbucker Pro pickups and a traditional V controls unit with master tone and split volume controls. Three-way toggle pickup switch is also there. Tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail bar offer fantastic stability for this V. Mahogany neck is topped with a chechen fingerboard. 22 frets, dot inlays, 12" radius and 1.695" wide corian nut complete the fingerboard. The MSRP for this outstanding Flying V is set at $1,899.
