The wood, being the essence of the guitar, must be very carefully chosen if a good tone is desired. Therefore, only premium tonewoods available to Gibson Custom and their luthiers are used in production of Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess. One piece solid mahogany body is among the best available. Beautiful two piece figured maple top is a suitable complement to mahogany back and provides that snap and bite along the unparalleled lows and warm highs that made Les Paul what it is today. Tradition is respected for the neck construction as well. It is a quarter sawn, st-in mahogany neck with a glued-in long-tenon joint. Fingerboard is made of rosewood and features 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid trapezoid inlays. Tuners are Kluson -styled with pearloid Keystone buttons.
Floyd Rose tremolo system used on Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess is a lot more than just a Floyd Rose. It feature miniature piezo pickups in all six GraphTech Ghost saddles. This enables the player to switch to a stunningly realistic plugged-in acoustic tone with a flick of the switch. Piezo is controlled through the push-pull volume control and it can be blended with regular pickups, or it can be played alone.
Regular pickups on this guitar include 496R ceramic humbucker in the neck and 498T ceramic humbucker in the bridge. They can be played in parallel or serial mode with the push-pull option built into electronics. The pickups can produce everything from vintage to modern sounds, from creamy leads to growling basses with a lot of mellow and sweet tone in between. Whatever tone the player chooses, it can go through either one mono output, using one cable, or "Life-O-Sound" double outputs for stereo effect. Guitar is finished in hand-sprayed thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer, just like the iconic Les Pauls in the last 60 years. Other features include: 12" fingerboard radius, 1.6875" nut width and a traditional 24-3/4" scale.
