David Ellefson and Jackson Guitars team up to cover the lower segments of the market with a pair of remarkable Kelly basses.
As years pass by, good things, if nurtured, tend to grow even better and more fruitful. Especially when combined with other high quality things. This is the case with Jackson`s latest pair of four-stringed basses, JS2 Kelly Bird IV and JS3 Kelly Bird IV, their final shape and features were determined by Jackson`s luthiers soaked with decades of experience and skills. The extra factor in this case was David Ellefson, one of the most prominent and influential bass players in rock and metal comunity. The result is, as we can see, jaw-dropping ratio of quality and price. These rockers will be light on the pocket and heavy on the tone of the player. JS Kelly2 sports only what is absolutely necessary, while the JS Kelly3 gives more ellegance, though the price tags are set pretty close to each other.
Jackson JS2 Kelly Bird IV is a solid-bodied bass with four strings and Jackson electronics installed. This single cutaway model rocks a famous Kelly body made of basswood. There is nothing on this model that is not absolutely necessary. Therefore, no bindings, pickguard, top wood veneer or fancy colored hardware, everything is subject to functionality. High mass bridge has four sadles and it`s painted black, Jackson humbuckers have volume, tone and pickups pan knobs. Rock maple is the material of choice for the neck and it`s topped with a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. 1-5/" nut, composite 12-16" radius and block inlays are also featured on the fingerboard. Jackson JS3 Kelly Bird IV is basically the same as JS2, but it boasts more luxurious appearance. Flamed maple top and white binding around the fingerboard look mighty fine combined with the glossy Transparent Blue Burst color. Kelly-shaped single cutaway body is made of basswood and it`s paired with a rock maple neck. Pickups are made by Jackson and they come in H/H configuration. Tuners are also Jackson-made. Pickups on this model are the same as on JS2, but in addition to JSs`s controls unit, this one has a three-band equalizer with belonging control knobs. Rock maple neck is also topped with a rosewood fingerboard. 21 frets, block inlays, Jackson tuners and black hardware complete the specs list for this model.
