Three electric guitars and the same number of electric basses made their way into the Modern Player series lineup for the summer of 2013.
Modern Player is a line for young players who want to pick their first Fender. it deals with affordable electric guitars and basses constantly trying to achieve the perfect ratio of quality and affordability. Despite it`s position as the introductory series, Modern Player line has the genuine Fender quality of build and tone. Both the basses and guitars deliver the strong, youthful tone, along with modern styling. Basses introduced for 2013 are: Dimension Bass, Jazz Bass and Jazz Bass V. There are also three guitars unveiled for summer 2013: Stratocaster HSH, Jazzmaster HH and Mustang. All models cost well under $1,000.
Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSH opens up the review section for this article. It is a solid and double-cut guitar made of mahogany body and maple neck, instead of traditional alder body/maple neck combo. Top of the body is equipped with a plastic pickguard, non-locking tremolo bridge and three Modern Player series pickups. They`re passive and are installed in classic H/S/H pattern. Maple neck is bolted to the body and it is topped with a standard 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The MSRP is set at $559. Fender Modern Player Jazzmaster HH is the second of three six-stringers introduced this time. This one rocks the mighty pair of Modern Player humbucker pickups in combination with classic Jazzmaster controls unit, where each pickup has it`s own on/off slider. Bridge unit is made up of the standard adjust-o-matic bridge and floating tremolo plate in the back. Maple neck is fit with modern C contour in the back and it is topped with a 21-fret fingerboard. Fender Modern Player Mustang is the third six-stringer among the reinforcements and it is the only one to feature the short 24” scale. Pine wood body is solid, single-cut and made with flat top. Maple neck is bolted to the body and it`s fit with modern C contour in the back. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard sits on the top. Pickups department is equipped with a pair of MP-90 single coil pickups. These fat singles come with a basic controls unit. Floating bridge features the vibrato bar. The MSRP is set at $699.99. Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass opens up the bass side of the review section. It is a solid and double-cut bass with alder body and maple neck. Top of the body is fit with a standard four-saddled Hi Mass bridge and a pair of Modern Player bass humbuckers. Standard set of controls is featured with them. traditionally, the maple neck is bolted to the body and fit with a C contour in the back. Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass V is a five-string variant of the aforementioned Modern Player jazz Bass. These two feature the same specs lists and only the string count makes a difference between them. Solid and double-cut body of this five-stringer is made of alder and it is paired with a bolted maple neck. High Mass bridge and two humbucking pickups with the standard controls are installed on the top. 20-fret rosewood fingerboard is featured on the neck. The MSRP is set at $759.99. Fender Modern Player Dimension Bass is the third novelty in the bass segment of the Modern Player series. This is a solid-bodied bass with flat-top design and four-string construction. regular High Mass bridge is installed on the top and in it`s front, Fender installs a triple-coil pickup in the bridge position. There are no other pickups on this model. Master volume and master tone knobs are featured with it. Maple neck is topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The MSRP is set at $699.99.
