Fender launches four new American Vintage basses. Stylish, cool and made with top quality, these basses are ready to take on the world.
Fender is a brand with huge tradition and reputation among both the players and other manufacturers. Many a quality models have been made with Fender`s badge on them, but selected few reached the iconic status. American Vintage series deals with such models and sports faithful replicas with loads of period-correct features. Both four and six-stringers from this series cost serious money and are aimed at players who know exactly what they want and are ready to invest some serious money to get it. For 2013 Fender introduces four basses into the series. Their names are: American Vintage '58 Precision Bass, American Vintage '63 Precision Bass, American Vintage '64 Jazz Bass and American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass. '74 Jazz Bass is the only one with multiple choices when it comes to the body and fingerboard materials.
Fender American Vintage '64 Jazz Bass is one gorgeous bass with offset waist body and bolted neck. Body contours correspond with the actual 1964 Jazz Bass. Top is flat and covered with a classic Jazz Bass pickguard. Pickups on this model are American Vintage single coils made especially for the Jazz Bass line. Controls include master tone and two volume knobs. Bridge behind them has threaded steel barrel saddles. Maple neck on this model sports C contour and it`s topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Fender American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass is the only one of four newly introduced models to feature a choice of two materials for the body and two materials for the fingerboard. Body is made of alder for Black, 3-Color Sunburst and Olympic White, while the ash is used for the Natural color scheme. Alder bodies are available only with rosewood fingerboards and the ash body can be paired with both the maple and rosewood fingerboard. Other features include vintage bridge, two single-coil pickups, 20 medium jumbo frets, 34" scale and vintage-styled tuners. Fender American Vintage '63 Precision Bass is a replica of the original 1963 P Bass. It comes with a solid, double-cut body and a bolted neck. This one features traditional '60s styling with classic pickguards, vintage tuners and metal covers over bridge and pickups sections. There`s only one pickup on this model, a split single-coil in the middle position. Neck is made of maple and it sports the standard C contour in the back. '63 P Bass comes with rosewood fingerboards on all color options. Fingerboard is equipped with 20 fret with clay dot inlays. Fender American Vintage '58 Precision Bass is the fourth and final update reviewed in this article. It comes with the authentic '50s styling and tone. Body of this Precision Bass is solid, double-cut and made of alder. It is paired with a C-contoured maple neck with maple fingerboard. Only maple fingerboards are available with all three color schemes on this model. There`s only one pickup installed in front of the vintage bridge, it is a split single coil pickup.
