Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Goldie is a part of Gibson Custom Collector`s Choice `59 Les Paul series which is based on exact recreations of Les Paul Standards from 1959.
Gibson Custom 1959 Goldie represents a replica of second guitar in Les Paul Standard series from 1959, the 9-0629, also known as "Goldie". The original "Goldie" is one of the most revered guitars from this series, for it had some of the most wanted characteristics in that series. The new "Goldie" was made with all the help technology can offer today. Digital scanning and a multitude of measuring systems were applied in the process of making the closest possible recreation of this individual instrument. All of the guitars in this limited run will be sent to Tom Murphy for a special aging treatment.
"Goldie" was chosen to be the basis for this limited series not just for it`s amazing looks, but also because it`s history is thoroughly documented and known. Only the first few years are somewhat unclear. After these few years, it`s first owner near Deer Park, Texas got it, and since then it`s all documented. "Goldie" has changed owners a few times and now is owned by an anonymous collector who loaned it to Gibson Custom for the purposes of creating the Gibson Custom 1959 Goldie series. The original "Goldie" has been cared for and kept in almost pristine condition. Of course, some minor scratches and dings appeared over the years, which will all be precisely recreated by Tom Murphy. What age brought to this sunburst beauty is that it mellowed the burst and created an "unburst" lime green appearance with the amber tone in the center and faded, barely visible burst around the edges. In order to accurately recreate this, special hand selected pieces of flame maple are chosen, put together and combined with a one piece mahogany body faded to match the original`s soft, mellow reddish-brown color. The top is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer and hand aged.
For the playing feel of the new Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Goldie, the original`s neck has been analyzed, measured and precisely recreated to match the original "Goldie"`s neck. It is a 1950s rounded shape, and it`s made of a single piece of quarter sawn mahogany. Rosewood fingerboard is bound in vintage cream, hand aged plastic, as well as the body top. Tuners are vintage and aged plastic and have single-band green keys. String nut is the genuine nylon 6/6 nylon nut. Tone of this guitar is provided by Alnico I burstbucker in the bridge and Alnico III burstbucker in the neck position. This recreates the mismatch PAF pickups had in output. Neck pickup gives it a lot of guts and strength, while the bridge pickup brings beauty and bell-like clear tones. Put together, these features guarantee for a fantastic, almost perfect recreation of Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard 9-0629, the "Goldie".
Other features include: Tune-o-matic bridge with a stoptail bar, divided volume and tone pots for each pickup, a three-way toggle pickup switch, nickel hardware, a pickguard, 12" fingerboard radius, 1.6875" nut width, 24-3/4" scale and a carved top. MSRP for this model is $11.762. It is available in Green Lemon Murphy-Aged color.
