Limited edition Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett Flying V was unveiled at Gibson Custom booth at 2012 Frankfurt Musikmesse. Only 150 copies are to be made.

2012 edition of Frankfurt Musikmesse saw some pretty awesome premiers, but none as hot as Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett Flying V. This is an exact replica of Kirk`s original 1979 Flying V he played through the early years of his career. Today, with almost thirty years of unbelievable career in Metallica, Kirk is rightfully considered as one of the best and most influential metal guitarists of all time, as he contributed and helped write countless metal anthems. This model made by Gibson Custom represents the most accurate recreation of his weapon from the early days, for Gibson Custom luthiers spared no effort in measuring and rebuilding the guitar. It is to be made in 150 copies. fifty of them will be painted with hand aged ebony finish and signed by Kirk. Other hundred will only receive hand aging process over the ebony color.

Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett Flying V comes with a classic 1979 contour and it`s body is made of a single piece of mahogany. The neck is also made of mahogany and connected with a mortise & tenon joint. It is sculpted to be the same as the original. EMG provides pickup combo, it`s 81 in the bridge and EMG H in the neck position. Controls setup is the same as on Kirk`s original guitar. Bridge is a tune-o-matic with a stoptail bar and chrome plating. The fingerboard is made of rosewood and it sports 22 jumbo sized frets with dot inlays and 1.562" wide corian nut. Scale is 24-3/4" long and tuners are Schallers. The MSRP for the hand aged variant is set at $7,527. Hand aged ebony version with Kirk`s signature costs $9,880.
