Memphis department of Gibson Guitars launches a brand new ES-335 signature model made for Mississippi blues and rock giant Luther Dickinson.
Gibson has recently launched the Memphis department in addition to already existing Gibson USA and Gibson Custom. Memphis is another luxurious brand of Gibson and it deals with vintage-styled guitars. For summer 2013, Gibson Memphis expands the signature artist series with Luther Dickinson ES-335 model. This is one of the most interesting electric guitars introduced under the Gibson banner this year. There was a very specific task put in front of Gibson`s luthiers during the design and construction of this six-string marvel. Main aim of the operation was to get the ES-330 tone and response from the ES-335 model. Luther`s beloved "Dog Ear" P-90s replaced the classic '57 humbuckers in the pickups department. That did the trick, along with other adjustments and modifications Mr Dickinson and Gibson Memphis luthiers made to the basic ES-335. This model no cheap thing and it most certainly doesn`t look and play like one. In order to buy one of these beauties, every potential player will have to spend big bucks, for the MSRP is set at $7.998.
Gibson Memphis Luther Dickinson ES-335 is a semi-hollow guitar with all-maple body. Back, sides and the carved top are made of laminated maple, while the center block is made of solid maple. Classic ES series decorations are featured on this model. Elevated pickguard, nickel-plated hardware and creme binding around the fingerboard are also there. Three-piece bridge unit is made up of a tune-o-matic bridge in the front, Bigsby vibrato bar in the middle and trapezoid tailpiece in the back. Set in neck is made of mahogany and it is topped with a hand-selected dark rosewood fingerboard. 22 frets are marked with dot inlays.
