With the new G5623 Special Edition Bono Signature model, Gretsch and the legendary Irish vocalist aim to help raise funds to help the global battle against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
What we have here is an affordable semi-hollow guitar made to aid a noble cause of extinguishing some of the wickedest diseases plaguing the human kind today. Though, well into 21st century, some parts of the world and people in them still fight a bitter battle against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. And, despite the global progress in the field of medicine, people still die of these illnesses every day. In order to give their contribution the best way that they can, Gretsch and Bono have united once again and the result is the affordable G5623 Electromatic® Center-Block (RED)™ Bono guitar. This red-clad semi-hollow will join the regular electric guitar lineup, along with Bono`s previous Green Falcon signature. The special thing about it, though, is the fact that five percent of the proceeds of the each G5623 guitar Gretsch sells will go to the Product Red and their global battle against the deadly diseases.
Gretsch G5623 Bono Signature Model kicks off with a traditional double-cut design and classic Gretsch semi-hollow construction. Red with glossy finish is the only color option available for this special edition six-string and it`s countered with white binding and chrome hardware. Arched back, arched sound board and 1-3/4” wide sides are all made of laminated maple, while the center block is made of Sitka spruce. On the carved top, there`s a classic two-piece bridge unit and a pair of Filtertron pickups for that classic Gretsch tone. 22-fret rosewood on a set-in maple neck and Grover tuners on the vintage headstock wrap the specs list.
