Hagstrom is Scandinavia`s premier guitar brand and it is also one of the strongest manufacturers on European soil. Their extensive catalog is made up of top notch electric and acoustic guitars and Hagstrom constantly receives more and more world-wide recognition. As the years pass by, this brand is getting closer and closer to once untouchable US nad Japanese brands. Especially now, when Hagstrom started producing top league signature models. Their first electric signature is Pat Smear Signature guitar. As Hagstrom claims, guitar that`s made for sale is exactly the same as the one Pat plays onstage. Besides this magnificent double-cut, Hagstrom unveils two Metropolis and one Viking model. Metropolis C and Metropolis S are the names of the newly established series. These are solid single-cuts with bolted necks. Viking P reinforces the lines of the already well-established Viking range.
Hagstrom Pat Smear Signature is a solid, double-cut guitar with SG-like body. It comes with a mahogany base and carved maple top. Elegant binding around the edges and elevated pickguard decorate the top. Neck is set and made of mahogany. It`s topped with a 22-fret resinator fingerboard, which features the same binding as the body. Hagstrom`s Custom '58 humbuckers are installed on this model and feature separate volume and tone controls. Tune-o-matic bridge has a covered stopbar in the back. Hagstrom Viking P is the only semi-hollow guitar reviewed in this article and it is a special one. It comes with a pair of Hagstrom`s over-sized single coils, much like the Gibson`s P-90s. Pair of these is as close to the pair of humbuckers, as it gets. Both in terms of strength and tone color. Separate volume and tone knobs are provided by Hagstrom. Viking is an elegant and distinguished semi-hollow and it`s equipped with a set of vintage-styled decorations. Neck is made of hard Canadian maple and it`s set. Metropolis C is one of two models from the fresh new Metropolis series of high quality single-cuts. Both models feature a solid LP-like body and bolted necks. Neck on the Metropolis C is made of maple and it`s topped with a standard 22-fret resinator fingerboard. C is also equipped with a pair of open-coil Hagstrom Custom '58 humbuckers. Hagstrom Metropolis S is the single-coil variant of the Metropolis C and it features basically the same set of specs as the above-mentioned model. Solid single-cut body is paired with a bolt-on neck, which is a rare concept for Les Paul-like guitars. Neck is made of maple and it`s topped with Hagstrom`s favorite, 22-fret resinator fingerboard. Pickups department is equipped with Hagstrom`s fat single-coil pickups, instead of humbuckers and that represents the biggest difference between these two gorgeous single-cuts.
