Twenty plus models were introduced into the acoustic section of the catalog. Two signature models made for Joe Satriani lead the pack.
Signature Series
Signature series in acoustic department is a lot smaller than in electric guitar section of the catalog, with only current members being Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Only Joe`s series got reinforcements for 2013 and it`s a two-fold update made up of JSA20-VB and JSA-5-VB. Joe`s signature line has only recently expanded into acoustic section, making it one of the most populous and versatile signature series in the industry.
Ibanez JSA20 is an acoustic-electric guitar with special JSA contour with single cutaway design. Back and side panels of the body are made of rosewood and the top is made of Englemann spruce. Needless to say, all tonewoods on JSA models are solid and hand-picked by Ibanez luthiers. Bridge and fingerboard are made of ebony and equipped with TUSQ saddle and nut, respectively. Ibanez JSA5 is largely similar model to JSA20, with the only major differences being the choice of tonewoods and electronics. Instead of rosewood, JSA5 has mahogany back and sides. Top is still made of spruce. Electronics are made by Fishman for this model, too, but different pickup/preamp combo is used. Neck is made of mahogany and it`s topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Bridge is also made of rosewood. Grover tuners, 25-3/5" scale and gloss lacquer finish complete the specs list. AEG Series
AEG series ha the role of a workhorse line in the acoustic section of the catalog. It`s models are made to be played at home, in garage, on camping trip, on stage, or wherever the player wants to play them. Reliable, sturdy and with fantastic build quality, models of AEG series represent one of the best options for players who are looking for a reliable companion, but don`t have a fortune to spend. AEGs are also equipped with vibrant color schemes and single-cut bodies. New acoustic-electrics introduced into the series include: AEG10II and AEG10NII.
Ibanez AEG10II is an acoustic-electric guitar introduced into the AEG series at this year`s NAMM show. It features the standard series AEG contour with single cutaway and combined Fishman/Ibanez electronics. As series standards propose, back and side panels of the body are made of mahogany and are topped with a spruce sound board. Ibanez AEG10NII is the second of two reinforcement models introduced into the AEG series fro 2013. It is the successor of the nylon string AEG10. Basically, this model features the same specs as the steel-string variant, with the exception of the strings. AEG body is single-cut and made of mahogany back and sides with spruce sound board on top. Electronics section is made up of Fishman pickup and Ibanez preamp. PF Series
PF series is one of the series in Ibanez catalog, which offer the most bang for the buck. It`s task is to give professional performance value for a fraction of the price one would have to pay for guitars of other brands. With ten new models PF series retains it`s signature level of quality and, at the same time, it gets more affordable. All ten models belong to the new "15" tier and bring the familiar performance along with good looks and supreme build quality. Names of the models are: PF15WC, PC15WC, PF15, PF1512, PF15L, PC15, PN15, PF15ECE, PF15ECEWC and PC15ECEWC.
Ibanez PF15WC is a full-sized dreadnought guitar with non-cutaway design. Also, it is fully acoustic steel-stringer with slightly vintage styling. Mahogany and spruce comprise the body. Mahogany is on the back and sides, while the spruce is on the top. Neck on this model is made of mahogany, as well and it`s topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez PC15WC is a grand concert sibling of the PF15WC. It is completely acoustic guitar with no electronics installed on, or within the body. Ibanez PF15 is a dreadnought-shaped steel stringer with non-cutaway body made of mahogany back and sides and spruce sound board on top. Ibanez PF15L is the left-hand variant of the PF15 model, also reviewed in this article. PF15L comes with a non-cutaway body made of mahogany back and sides and spruce sound board on top. It is fully acoustic and features no electronics installed on, or within the body. Neck is tradirionally made of mahogany and it`s attached to the body with a 14th fret dovetail joint. Ibanez PF1512 is the twelve-string variant of the PF15 model and is also the only twelve-stringer unveiled for PF series at this year`s NAMM show. Standard construction appointments include a non-cutaway dreadnought body made of mahogany and spruce, mahogany neck attached with a 14th fret dovetail joint, vintage styling and 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez PC15 is one of two grand concert models introduced at NAMM show. It comes s with a pair of interesting color options, including Open Pore Vintage Sunburst and Vintage Sunburst. Other than that, this one is completely standard PF series acoustic steel-stringer. Mahogany comprises back and side panels of the body, as well as the neck. Ibanez PN15 is the only parlor-shaped guitar among the novelties introduced into the PF series at this year`s NAMM show. It has a slightly shorter scale, but other than that is a standard PF guitar. Ibanez PF15ECE is the first of three acoustic-electric guitars introduced into the PF series this year. It takes the base from the PF15 and adds Ibanez under-saddle pickup with AEQ200T preamp, also made by Ibanez. Ibanez PF15ECEWC is an acoustic-electric variant of the PF15WC. These two feature the same base. PC15ECEWC has single-cut dreadnought body with Ibanez electronics installed within. Mahogany back and sides are paired with spruce sound board on top. Through a dovetail joint, this body is matched with a mahogany neck, which represents the most standard type of the body in PF series. 20-fret fingerboard on top of the neck is made of rosewood. Ibanez PC15ECEWC is the tenth and final model introduced into the PF series. It is also the third of three acoustic-electric guitars unveiled for PF series at NAMM 2013. It comes with a single-cut grand concert body made of standard mahogany back and sides with spruce sound board on top. Both the under-saddle pickup and the AEQ200T preamp are made by Ibanez. Neck is made of mahogany and it`s topped with a standard 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Chrome-plated hardware, glossy natural finish and rosewood bridge complete the specs list. AEF/Talman/Classical/Resonator
AEF series is back in Ibanez catalog and it`s bringing even more goods than before. Known for it`s fantastic ratio of price and quality. For 2013 it has been updated with one model. It`s name is AEF18L. Talman is probably one of the most eccentric designs in the industry. It features acoustic guitars made with double-cut and super thin bodies. It is no secret that Talman is the series dedicated to electric guitar players. It`s updates include: TCY74 and TCY10E. Classical series, as it`s name says, deals with nylon-string guitars. It`s roster has been refreshed with four new models: GA2, GA1, GM500MCE and GA35TCE. Ibanez also introduced one resonator at 2013 NAMM: RA100.
Ibanez AEF18LE is the only model being introduced into the AEF series this time. It rocks the classic feedback-resistant AEF body made of mahogany back and sides with spruce sound board on top. This is the most standard selection of tonewoods for Ibanez steel stringers. Neck is also made of mahogany and it`s topped with a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez TCY74 is the first of two Talman models unveiled this January at NAMM show. It is an acoustic-electric guitar made for electric guitar players who are looking to switch to acoustics without too much trouble. Body of this double-cut guitar is made entirely of mahogany and features open pore finish. neck is also made of mahogany and it features a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard on top. TCY10E is the second of two new Talman models. It comes with pretty similar specs list as the TCY74. It is made with a thin double-cut body and comfortable mahogany neck. Body is made of mahogany back and sides with spruce sound board on top. Black, Transparent Blue Sunburst and Metallic Silver Sunburst comprise the color palette. Ibanez GA2 is one of four models introduced into the Classical series. It comes with a standard non-cutaway classical body made of agathis back and sides and spruce sound board on top. mahogany is used for the neck and rosewood comprises the bridge and flat 19-fret fingerboard. Ibanez GA1 is even smaller than GA2, as it features 20-4/5" scale. This one also features agathis on the back and side panels of the body and spruce on top. All tonewoods on this model are laminated, as GA1 competes in budget-friendly class and is also considered a beginner`s model. Neck is made of mahogany and it features 12th fret dovetail joint. Ibanez GM500CE is one serious nylon-stringed grand concert model with combined Fishman/Ibanez electronics and single-cut construction. Ibanez GA35TCE is a slim classical guitar with single cutaway and Ibanez electronics installed within the body. Body of this model is made of mahogany back and sides with spruce sound board on top. One of non-characteristic features for nylon-stringers is the neck joint, which is set at 14th fret. Also, the rosewood fingerboard has 21 frets, instead of 19. Ibanez RA100 is the only resonator guitar introduced into the catalog at this year`s NAMM show. It is a part of the folk instrument line and it comes with a classic vintage styling. Mahogany back and sdes are topped with a spruce sound board and metal resonator cone. Cone also holds the bridge section for this non-cutaway six-stringer.
