2012 is very important in Ibanez calendar, for it marks 25 years of world domination of one and only RG series. This is one of the most important and influential series of guitars to ever appear on the market, for it redefined what a metal-oriented gutiar is and should be. A brand new RX3XXV is introduced into the 25th Limited Edition series. S series also plays a huge role in Ibanez catalog and it`s summer of 2012 Ibanez chose to expand the S family with S Premium line. Currently, there are two models in it: S920 and S970W. Both feature carved tops and bolted necks. Now, the only bass novelty this time is SR256, an affordable six-string bass. It is made for the players who want to explore extended range basses, but are not willing to spend thousands of dollars. And, finally, there is a new contest held by Ibanez in cooperation with Meshuggah. RGA8QMTGB is the main prize, along with T shirt signed by Fredrik Thorendal and Marten Hagstrom.
Ibanez RG3XXV is the third model from the RG 25th Limited series and it is equipped with a mix of classic RG features and modern appointments. Basswood body is solid, equipped with double cutaway and flat. No binding, pickguard, top wood veneers, this one is heavily oriented towards the performance. Edge Zero II double locking bridge is one of the finest tremolo systems on the market, and it will keep the strings in tune on this model, no matter what players throw at it. Ibanez S920 is the opening model of the new-found S Premium line of electic guitars. S was always considered an RG for players who prefer carved tops and elegant looks. S920 comes with a mahogany body with double cutaway and elegant carvings on the top. The main feature og this model are it`s pickups, EMG 81 in the bridge and EMG60 in the neck position. They are controlled through master volume and three-way toggle switch. Five pieces of maple and walnut comprise the neck, which is bolted to the body. standard 24 fret-fingerboard is made of rosewood. Bridge is ZR2 with double locking tremolo system. Ibanez S970W is the current flagship of the S Premium series and it features a combination of mahogany back with carved and bound claro walnut top for the body. Add maple and walnut five-piece neck with wizard premium contour and powerful Ibanez passive pickups, and this one is ready to take on the world. Pickups are configured in H/S/H layout and have basic controls unit made of master volume, master tone and five-position blade switch. Bridge is series standard ZRII. The only color option for this model is natural with gloss finish to accentuate the beauty of walnut top panel. Fingerboard is made of rosewood and it features 24 jumbo frets, offset dot inlays, 15-3/4" radius and 1.69" wide locking nut. Ibanez SR256 is a solid bodied electric bass with six strings. It is made as an affordable alternative for players willing to switch to extentded range bass, but don`t have truck-load of money to buy one. SR256 features a modern double cutaway body made of mahogany. It is paired with a three-piece maple neck through a bolt-on joint. Bridge section features Ibanez B16 bridge with six saddles and black paint. Pickups are also Ibanez. A pair of active humbuckers is controlled with master volume and tone knobs, with the addition of bass, mid and treble boost/cut knobs. Maple neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard. 24 medium frets, dot inlays, 15-3/4" radius and 2.12" string nut complete this 34" scaled bass. Ibanez organizes a contest in cooperation with Meshuggah in which RGA8QMTGB will be given away to the lucky winner. Prize list also includes Ibanez t-shirt with autographs by Fredrik Thorendal and Marten Hagstrom. On the technical side, this contest is available to citizens and residents of the continental part of USA who have reached 18 years of age. This contest is entered on Ibanez official site. The main prize, RGA8QMTGB is an eight-string juggernaut made for extreme players and extreme music. Solid, double cut mahogany body is topped with carved quilted maple veneer and finished in satin. Fixed Edge III with eight saddles is elected for the bridge. A pair of active Ibanez humbuckers is installed on this one. Five piece maple/walnut neck is topped with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard.
