Ibanez long running SR Series celebrates 25 years in the game with stunning XXV models, one four and one five-stringer.
Twenty five long years ago, in 1987 Ibanez launched the SR bass series. As the time passed, many models, series and brands came to compete and disappeared without a trace. Few of them withstood the test of time. SR series is among ones which passed with top marks. Now, in 2012, Ibanez celebrates this great jubilee with two brand new models. SR4XXV and SR5XXV are their names. These basses are built to look great, but more than anything, they are built to play. Raw energy just radiates from these killing machines, while the subtle elegance makes them easy to mistake for exhibition pieces.
Ibanez SR4XXV is a four-stringed variant in this jubilee series and it kicks off with a solid, double cutaway mahogany body with paduak top. It is accompanied by five piece wenge/bubinga neck wih SR contour. Nordstrand pickups, even though they are single coils, give bone crushing strength and truck loads of sustain. Controls section is among the most elaborate ones and includes master volume, balance, three-band equalizer and two mini-switches for countless possibilities. Rosewood fingerboard is equipped with 24 medium frets, abalone inlays and 1.50" wide string nut. 34" scale, mono-rail bridge and gold plated hardware complete the specs. Ibanez SR5XXV is the extended scale model in this 25th anniversary mini-series. Many of the specs are common to both models, and number of strings represents the biggest difference. SR5XV has a mahogany body with paduak top and natural satin finish. The bridge on this five-stringer is a five-saddle mono-rail with gold plating. Nordstrand pickups on this one are the same as on the four stringer, with only difference being the extended range of pickups used on SR5XXV. wenge/bubinga neck features a rosewood fingerboard with 24 medium sized frets, 1.77" nut width and 12" radius.
