Jackson Guitars launch eight brand new metal machines for fall 2012. Two Dinkies, two Soloists, two RR models and two King Vs are hitting the stage.
As one of the leaders in metal-oriented guitar division, Jackson has to compete against ever growing and stronger competition. But with each new model it seems Jackson stays on top effortlessly. Fall of 2012 brings one of major reconstructions of Jackson catalog, and probably the most important news for metalheads around the globe. Jackson introduces eight novelties into the Pro Series. Versatility, quality and amazing looks guarantee a long and prosperous life for this series. There are two Soloist models: SL2 Pro Series Soloist and SL2Q Pro Series Soloist. Double cut section also received a pair of new Dinkies: DK2M Pro Series Dinky and DK2MQ Pro Series Dinky. Vs are represented with two King V and two Randy Rhoads models: RRMG Pro Series Rhoads and RRTMG Pro Series Rhoads, KVMG Pro Series King V and KVMGQ Pro Series King V . Four models have passive and four models have active pickups. Seven of them are equipped with Floyd Rose bridges and six have 24 frets.
Jackson SL2 Pro Series Soloist is a brand new Soloist model made for the Pro Series. It comes with a double-cut body made of alder. Three-piece maple neck runs through the entire length of the body. Top is flat and features no top wood veneers. Bridge is a recessed Floyd Rose tremolo with a locking nut on the other side of the neck. Pickups are made by Seymour Duncan and are controlled with master volume, master tone and three-way toggle pickup switch. Maple neck is equipped with series standard speed contour and topped with a 24-fret ebony fingerboard. 1-11/16" string nut and compound 12"-16" radius are also featured on this model. Jackson SL2Q Pro Series Soloist is basically the same as SL2 model, with the biggest difference being the existence of quilted maple top on this one. Construction-wise, these two are the same, for both feature double-cut alder bodies with through-body neck joints. Recessed Floyd Rose bridge is installed on this one too. So are Seymour Duncan humbuckers. Master tone, master volume and three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls unit. Maple neck has speed contour and is finished in oil. 24-fret fingerboard is made of ebony and has Alumiloid Piranha inlays. 25-1/2" scale, compound 12"-16" radius and 1-11/16" wide string nut are some basic measures of this Soloist. Jackson DK2M Pro Series Dinky is the first of two Dinkies in this article. It is the basic variant, while the DK2MQ has quilted maple top and fancy aesthetics. DK2M cuts straight to the chase. Double cut alder body has a flat top and bolt-on neck joint. Bridge is a Floyd Rose recessed tremolo with locking nut on the neck. Zebra-styled Seymour Duncans are installed on this model. Master volume, master tone and five-position blade comprise the controls section. Positions 2 and 4 split the pickups into single coils. three-piece maple neck is installed on this one and it`s topped with either a rosewood or maple fingerboard. Both have 24 jumbo frets, offset dot inlays and 1-11/16" wide string nut. Tuners on this model are made by Jackson. Jackson DK2MQ Pro Series Dinky is basically the same model as the previous, with the exception of the quilted maple top. Other than that, these two are practically the same. Dinky double cut body made of alder. This construction is covered with a maple quilt veneer, which comes in Transparent Black, Transparent Red and Chlorine Burst. All are finished in high gloss. Recessed Floyd Rose is still here, as are zebra-styled Seymour Duncan pickups. Also, the configuration of the controls unit is the same: master volume, master tone and five-position switch. Maple neck is equipped with bolt-on construction and speed contour. Both the maple and rosewood are viable options for fingerboard on this model. 24 jumbo frets, 12"-16" radius and 1-11/16 wide nut are featured. Jackson RRMG Pro Series Rhoads V is the first four V-shaped guitars introduced this time. It comes with familiar asymmetrical V body made of alder wings and maple center. Maple center is a part of the through-body maple neck. This one features Black Satin and Matte Gray color options with satin and matte finish, respectively. Recessed Floyd Rose bridge is panted black and it`s paired with 1-11/16" wide locking nut on the fingerboard. With V-contoured bodies Jackson introduces EMG humbuckers. This and other three models have 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck. Neck on this model is made of three pieces of maple and it`s topped with a 22-fret fingerboard made of ebony. Two Rhoads models are the only ones with 22 frets. Jackson installs their own tuners on all eight models. Jackson RRTMG Pro Series Rhoads is the only model with fixed bridge in this update. It sports a tune-o-matic bridge with string-through-body construction. Like the rest of the hardware, this bridge is painted in black. Also, another prominent feature of this model is the EMG81/85 combo installed in bridge and neck positions. Combined with solid V-shaped alder body and three-piece maple neck with through-body construction, these EMGs give tremendous tone and strength. Color options available for this Rhoads are Silverburst and Black, both finished in high gloss. Maple neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard with 22 jumbo-sized frets with shark tooth inlays. 12"-16" compound radius and 1-11/16" wide string nut complete the fingerboard. Jackson KVMG Pro Series King V is the first of two King V guitars introduced in this article. It comes with a familiar V-shaped solid body made of alder. Construction-wise, it has neck-through-body joint and beveled edges. Snow white with black edges and completely black variants are available, both finished in gloss. Both have black hardware, which includes recessed Floyd Rose tremolo bridge, black knobs and tuning machines. Pickups on this model are EMG 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck. Master volume, master tone and three-way toggle pickup switch control them. Maple neck is made of three pieces of wood and it`s equipped with speed contour. Ebony fingerboard has 24 jumbo-sized frets, shark tooth inlays, compound 12"-16" radius and 1-11/16" wide string nut. Jackson KVMGQ Pro Series King V is the last model in this review and it is almost the same as the previous, the KVMG. The difference is that KVMGQ has quilted maple top. Other than that, it is pretty much the same story. Alder body is constructed with maple neck running through it`s entire length and it has beveled edges. Floyd Rose tremolo bridge is painted in black to match the rest of the hardware. EMG81/85 combo is installed on this one, as well. Characteristic control unit consists of master volume, master tone and three-way toggle pickup switch. Three-piece maple neck has speed contour and oil finish.
