With the introduction of the SE Floyd Custom 24 and the limited edition Mark Holcomb Custom 24, PRS solidifies it`s positions among the hard rocking guitar slingers.
Recent years and the development of the PRS catalog have shown that this amazing brand is growing into one of the true greats of the US market. Some of the best budget-friendly series and models have been unveiled in last several years. Also, the signature artist line has been reinforced with some of the legends, as well as the most promising young guns of the hard rock and metal scene. Along with these, additions to the acoustic and bass segments have reached a very wide range of players. Continuing the expansion and the diversification of the electric guitar lineup, PRS introduces a pair of game changing Custom 24 models. First on the list is the SE series Floyd Custom 24 with somewhat conservative design, heavy duty chassis and super versatile pickups. Second one is a limited edition signature Custom 24 made for one of the most influential young metal guitarists around, Periphery`s Mark Holcomb. Now, let`s head over to the review section where we`ll take a closer look and inspect these two beauties in greater detail.
PRS SE Floyd Custom 24 is one of very few PRS models with a locking tremolo bridge and the first one to earn the status of a game changer. It`s down to earth approach, simple construction and more than versatile tone grant this outstanding six-string a huge advantage over the competition. Classic double-cut PRS body made of mahogany and maple is equipped with a driving engine made up of the zebra-coiled SE HFS Treble and SE Vintage Bass pickups. Add the Korean-made Floyd Rose 1000 bridge, thin maple neck, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard and super reliable nickel-plated hardware and you`re good to go in pretty much any setting and environment, be it the smoky jazz/blues club, recording studio, arena-sized venue, or just the garage rehearsal. No frills approach, huge and versatile tone, affordable price and sophisticated PRS design of this eye-popping axe pretty much sums up what the general direction of the future PRS catalog developments might look and sound like. PRS Mark Holcomb Custom 24 is, sadly, only a limited edition model. It will be available from January 6, 2015 through March 6, 2015, though we hope for a permanent model to follow. This tuxedo-clad beast is, despite the facts that it`s early January and that it`s production time span is limited to just two months, a very strong contender for the “signature guitar of the year” title. Classic mahogany/quilt maple body with double-cut design is set against the marvelous custom-built Seymour Duncan Alpha (bridge) and Omega (neck) humbuckers, embodying the classic beauty and the beast dichotomy. Developed in recent years, string-through bridge, aided by the Phase III locking PRS tuners, does a terrific job at keeping this wild one in perfect tune and intonation across the long 25-1/2” scale. 24 frets on the ebony fingerboard now have more room and are less cramped. Fast and smooth maple neck rocks the satin finish and the thin Pattern profile in the back.
