2012 brings us seventeen new guitars from Martin. Acoustic, acoustic-elctric, steel-stringers, nylon-stringers, they were all introduced at NAMM Show this year.
C.F. Martin leads the industry`s acoustic segment for decades now, and this multitude of novelties for 2012 shows that Martin will remain the leader for years to come. These new models range from entry level models to limited edition guitars which cost over $10,000. A total of six series have been updated for 2012. Special Editions bring 000C Nylon. Performing Artist received seven new models: DCPA1 Madagascar Rosewood, DCPA 4 Siris, DCPA 5K, GPCPA 1 Madagascar Rosewood, GPCPA 4 Sapele, GPCPA 4 Siris and GPCPA 5K. Custom Artist has D-28 Mamas and the Papas model. Road Series received DRS 2. In Standard Series D-18 and OM 21 were added. And, finally, Limited Edition Series put a crown on this list with five jaw-dropping beauties: 0045SC John Mayer, GPCPA Koa, DCPA Koa, CS-D18-12 and CS-D28-12.
Martin 000C Nylon opens the list of this year`s novelties with nylon strings upon a classic cutaway body made of sapele back and sides and spruce top. The bridge and matching fingerboard are both made of black richlite and feature plastic saddle and nut, respectively. Fishman F1 Analog electronics setup takes care of amplification duties for this nylon-stringer and features volume and tone knobs mounted onto the side of the guitar. The MSRP is set at $1,999. Martin DCPA 1 Madagascasr Rosewood is the first of seven acoustic-electric models placed within the Performing Artist Series, and it kicks off with a cutaway dreadnought body made of Madagascar rosewood and spruce top. Select hardwood neck is equipped with a Performing Artist contour and 14th fret dovetail joint. The fingerboard is matched with bridge and is made of solid ebony. It sports 20 frets and torch inlays. Martin DCPA 4 Siris is one of the more affordable Performing Artist Series models with the MSRP being set at $1,849. This model features a dreadnought cutaway body made of siris back and sides with a spruce top. Black richlite bridge is paired with black richlite fingerboard which has 20 frets with 1-3/4" wide corian nut. Fishman F1 Analog electronics feature side-mounted controls. Martin DCPA 5K is one of the entry models for Performing Artist series. It comes with a dreadnought cutaway body made of high pressure laminated koa back and sides with a solid spruce top. These model still give authentic Martin playing experience and tone, but come without some aesthetic features and with less exclusive materials. Siris is the wood of choice for backs and sides of this model, while the top is still reserved for a piece of solid spruce. Martin D-28 Mamas and the Papas dreadnought is made in celebration of the band`s career and ground breaking work. Only one hundred of these will be made for worldwide distribution, thus the exclusivity is guaranteed. Backs and sides of this non-cutaway dreadnought are made of Madagascar rosewood with a solid spruce top. Solid ebony is used for the bridge and 20 fret fingerboard. The fingerboard sits upon a solid mahogany neck with hand-fitted dovetail joint. There are no electronics on this model. Martin DRS 2 is a brand new model in the Road series and it was unveiled at Martin booth at NAMM Show this year. Martin 0045SC John Mayer is the first of five Limited Edition Series novelties for 2012. It kicks off with a parlor-sized non-cutaway body made of solid cocobolo back and sides and solid Adirondack Spruce. The bracing is also made of Adirondack spruce. Grained Ivoroid binding and tortoise pickguard are complemented with natural gloss finish. Ebony is the material of choice for bridge and fingerboard. One of the most distinguishing features on this model is a set of string pins made of fossilized mammoth ivory. Martin DCPA Koa is a sibling model to GPCPA Koa and they share a majority of features. The biggest difference is the body shape, as DCPA is a dreadnought with a cutaway. Other than that, solid Hawaiian koa back and sides, solid Adirondack spruce top and mahogany neck are the same as on GPCPA Koa. Also, combination of solid ebony bridge and fingerboard is a common feature for both guitars. Fishman supplies F1 Analog electronics for amplification of this model.
