At 2012 Frankfurt Musikmesse Martin Guitars unveiled three brand new Performing Artist guitars and Jeff Tweedy Custom Artist model.
As the second most important event in the industry, Frankfurt Musikmesse is a great place to promote new instruments. For 2012 edition Martin Guitars opted to unveil new models in Performing and Custom Artist lines. DCPA 4 Rosewood, GPCPA 4 Rosewood and OMCPA 4 Rosewood were added to the Performing Artist line. 00-DB Jeff Tweedy was introduced into the Custom Artist line. All Performing Artist updates have rosewood bodies and Fishman electronics. On the other side, Jeff Tweedy model is Martin`s nod to the world-wide initiative for responsible wood harvesting. It promotes sustainable and renewable wood resources as the primary principle in the industry. Thus far, the initiative has met positive response and many of the leading manufacturers support it.
Martin DCPA 4 Rosewood and Martin DCPA 4 Rosewood Left Handed are a pair of cutaway dreadnoughts from the Performing Artist Series. They feature bodies made of Indian rosewood backs and sides with solid spruce tops. These models have black richlite bridges with TUSQ saddles and belly shapes. Electronics are, as on all Performing Artist novelties for 2012 Musikmesse, provided by Fishman and controlled through side-mounted volume and tone knobs. Hardwood bridges are topped with black richlite fingerboards. 20 frets, 1.75" wide corian nuts, 25-2/5" scales and chrome hardware complete the specs for this pair. Martin GPCPA 4 Rosewood and Martin GPCPA 4 Rosewood Left Handed come with grand auditorium bodies made of solid Indian rosewood back and sides with solid spruce tops. They represent the alternative for players who want the tone and strength similar to the dreadnoughts, but find this size and shape more comfortable. List of standard features includes: black richlite bridge with TUSQ saddle, select hardwood bridge with mortise & tenon joint, Fishman F1 Analog electronics with side-mounted volume and tone controls and black richlite fingerboard with 20 frets and 1.75" wide corian nut. Martin OMCPA 4 Rosewood and Martin OMCPA 4 Rosewood Left Handed are the third and final pair of updates for Performing Artist series unveiled at the 2012 Frankfurt Musikmesse. They come OM bodies with cutaways. As their names say, their backs and sides are made of solid Indian rosewood and topped with solid spruce sound boards. white boltaron binding and tortoise pickguards add to the overall elegance of these orchestras. Black richlite bridges and fingerboards are paired, as it is so often case with acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars. Hardwood necks have mortise & tenon joints and Performing Artist profiles. 20 frets, 1.75" corian nuts and 25-2/5" scales complete the specs. Fishman provides the electronics. The MSRP is the same as for previous Rosewood models and it is set at $1,849. Martin 00-DB Jeff Tweedy and Martin 00-DB Jeff Tweedy Left Handed are the only Custom Artist Series updates for this year`s edition o Musikmesse. These models come in 00 non-cutaway shape and they feature no electronics. Backs, sides and tops are made entirely of FSC certified solid mahogany. Necks on these models are also made of mahogany which makes a solid base for strong, rich and warm sound. Mortise & tenon joints are applied on both variants. Bridge-fingerboard pair is made of black richlite and equipped with bone saddle and nut, respectively. 20 frets, dot position inlays, 25-2/5" scales and 1.75" wide nuts complete the specs.
