For the upcoming spring of 2014, Ibanez is thoroughly reshaping the electric bass range with 23 new models. SR, GSR, ATK and other seris are being updated.
As one of the premier brands not just in Japan, but the entire world, Ibanez has an additional amount of pressure to always stay on top of their game and raise the bar over and over again. This can prove to be a very cumbersome and demanding task, but Ibanez does it seemingly effortlessly. For 2014, Ibanez has introduced 23 electric basses, divided into five series: Ibanez Bass Workshop, SR Premium, SR, ATK and GSR. Newly established Ibanez Bass Workshop comes with four models, Soundgear Prestige gets three basses, while the standard SR series gets eight. ATK gets two models and the GSR series is reinforced with six new basses. Six six-stringers, seven five-stringers and ten four-string models are being unveiled.
Ibanez Bass Workshop
Ibanez SRF700 is the first of four instruments introduced into the newly established Ibanez Bass Workshop series. It comes with a solid and double-cut mahogany body with flat-top design and neck-through construction. Two standard and one piezo pickup comprise the pickups combo for this fretless four-stringer. Ibanez SRF705 is the five-string version of the previously reviewed SRF700 model. Materials and hardware appointments used on this model are identical to the ones used on the SRF700. Ibanez SRC6 is the first of six six-stringed electric basses introduced for 2014. It rocks the modern-looking mahogany body with the bolt-on jatoba/bubinga neck and passive EMG electronics. Ibanez BTB686SC is one of two six-stringed models introduced into the initial Ibanez Bass Workshop lineup. This six-stringed giant is made of ash base with rosewood on top. Maple and bubinga comprise the neck. Bartolini single-coils are fit with an extensive controls unit, which grants an unprecedented level of versatility to this model. SR Premium
Ibanez SR1800E is the first of three SR Premium basses. It comes with a solid and double-cut body made of three layers. Basic layer is made of mahogany, walnut is in the middle and rosewood and flamed maple on the top. Passive Nordstrand pickups,wenge/bubinga neck and rosewood fingerboard are also featured. Ibanez SR1805E features the same tonewoods, same construction and the same design as the previously mentioned SR1800E. The only real difference is the string count, as the SR1805E has five, while the SR1800E has four. Ibanez SR1806E follows the lead of the previous two models. It has the same triple-layer body and the bolted neck with Atlas contour. Monorail bridge on this one has six saddles. SR
Ibanez SR806 is a solid and double-cut electric bass with six-string construction and classic SR series design. It rocks the full-length 34” scale, passive Bartolini pickups with passive controls, Accu-cast B300 bridge, modern jatoba/bubinga neck and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez SR700 is one of eight standard SR series updates for 2014. Solid and double-cut body of this four-stringer is made of mahogany base with flamed maple top and bubinga/jatoba neck. Ibanez SR400QM comes with the standard SR series double-cut design and bolt-on neck joint construction. Mahogany in the back and quilted maple on the top are combined with a maple/rosewood neck. Ibanez SR375 is one of many intermediate class basses introduced at this year`s NAMM show. What sets it apart from the competition is the amazing Ibanez build quality and playability. Ibanez SR300 is the new incarnation of the king of the lower intermediate class of electric basses. It comes with a solid and carved agathis body and a five-piece maple/rosewood neck. Standard CAP EXF-N2 pickups are featured in the neck and bridge positions. 24-fret rosewood fingerboard is also featured. Ibanez SR300M is practically identical to the regular SR300, with the exception of the fingerboard, which is made of maple, instead of rosewood. Body is solid, carved and made of agathis and the neck is made of five pieces of maple and rosewood. CAP pickups and die-cast tuners are also there. Ibanez SR250 represents the most basic tier in the standard SR series. It comes with a solid and double-cut basswood body and the bolted maple neck. Ibanez SR255 has a solid and double-cut basswood body combined with the fast and slim maple neck. Ibanez ATK200 is a solid and double-cut bass guitar with four-string construction and vintage design, characteristic for the ATK models. Ibanez ATK205 kicks off with a solid and double-cut ash body with ATK series standard design and vintage styling. On the top of the flat ash body, Ibanez installs the regular triple-bucker in the bridge position and the classic ATK bridge. Maple neck is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. GSR
Ibanez GSR200SM is one of three GSR SM models introduced at this year`s NAMM. It comes with a solid and double-cut mahogany body with flamed maple top. Ibanez GSR200B is one of six models introduced into the GSR line for 2014. It comes with a solid and flat mahogany body and a standard bolt-on neck made of maple. Ibanez GSR205B is a solid and double-cut bass with the standard 34” scale, passive PSND pickups (in classic J/P configuration), B10 hardtail bridge with four adjustable saddles, bolted three-piece maple neck with GSR contour in the back and the standard 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez GSR206B is the sixth and final six-stringer introduced for 2014. It comes with a solid and double-cut body made entirely of mahogany. Ibanez GSR205M kicks off with a solid and double-cut body made entirely of agathis. It is flat on top and sports the classic bolt-on neck joint. B15 bridge and DXH pickups are installed on it`s top.
