Four brand new models were launched at Ovation booth this year. Two full-sized guitars with koa tops, one full-sized guitar with composite top and one mandolin.
Ovation has always been, and still is at the very frontier of the guitar industry, pushing always onwards. Their composite bowl concept is still too advanced for many manufacturers in the business, though Ovation utilizes it for decades, now. Already exquisite catalog of acoustic-electric guitars from one of America`s most advanced brands has been expanded with four new models for 2013. They were unveiled at this year`s NAMM in Anaheim, Ca. Three full-sized guitars and one mandolin were introduced. All of them come in very limited numbers and with top-shelf appointments. Names of the guitars are 1798-FKOA4, 2098-KOA4 and Adamas 2080ES. Exclusive, elegant, made of finest materials and decorated with elegance and grace, these guitars represent the current top of the catalog. Mandolin is named Adamas MM80-NWT and it follows in it`s bigger brothers` steps.
Ovation 1798-FKOA4 is one beautiful single-cut guitar with standard Lyrachord contours and standard neck joint. Back bowl is traditionally made of composite materials, while the top is made of koa. This exceptional tone wood not only looks awesome, it also gives angelic tone to this model. discreet binding and single offset sound hole decorate the top. Bridge is made of ebony and it`s matched with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard. Ovation electronics are featured on this model. Neck is made of five pieces of mahogany and maple. Ovation 2098-KOA4 is the sibling model to 1798-FKOA and these two feature very similar specs lists. Standard composite bowl in the back is made with Lyrachord contours and it is topped with a koa sound board. Koa top is the center piece of this model and it is decorated very carefully and discreetly, not to diminish it`s beauty. Discreet binding and an offset sound hole are the only decorations. Ebony is used for both the bridge and 22-fret ebony fingerboard. Mahogany/maple neck is the same as on 1798-FKOA4 and it`s set in. Ovation electronics and tuners are also featured on this model. Ovation Adamas 2080ES is the third and final full-sized guitar reviewed in this article. It features the same base as two previous models, which results in Adamas 2080ES having Lyrachord bowl in the back. Top is equipped with a composite sound board with hardwood epaulets. The only tone wood used on this model is walnut. It`s used for the standard-shaped bridge with rear loading, set-in neck and 22-fret fingerboard. Fingerboard is decorated with dot inlays. Ovation electronics are installed on 2080ES and are controlled through a side-mounted preamp. Gold-plated ovation tuners and 25-1/4" scale complete the specs list. Ovation Adamas MM80-NWT is the fourth and final model unveiled at NAMM show. It is also the only mandolin among these four instruments. It has very similar specs to 2080ES, featuring single-cut body made completely of composite materials and heavy use of walnut tone wood. Body is made with scaled-down Lyrachord shape and topped with a composite sound board. Walnut bridge with rear loading is matched with a 21-fret walnut fingerboard.
