Inspired by the prewar acoustic guitars, Retro series represents the latest catalog update from Martin Guitars. Four acoustic-electric guitars make up the roster.
Martin is a brand with over one hundred years of tradition and experience. Their models are a sort of standard by which all other brands and models are judged and measured for quality. This summer catalog of Martin Guitars is expanded with a brand new series named Retro. Models of the series are, as the series name says, inspired by old and legendary models of the past. Particularly by prewar acoustic guitars. Retro models from Martin represent the closest thing to actually playing a prewar acoustic. Currently, the series is made up of four models: D-45E Retro, D-18E Retro, HD-28E Retro and OM-28E Retro.
Martin D-45E Retro is a non-cutaway dreadnought model, the first of three dreads in this series. It comes in natural color with gold-plated tuners and grained ivoroid binding. East Indian rosewood is used for back and side panels, while the top is made of solid spruce. Neck is attached to the body with a dovetail neck joint and it is made of selected hardwood. Fingerboard is made of ebony and it has 20 frets and 1.75" wide bone nut. Electronics department is equipped with Fishman F1 Aura Plus system and the bridge matches the fingerboard, it is made of ebony. The MSRP is set at $11,990. Martin OM-28E Retro is the model which breaks the domination of non-cutaway dreadnoughts, for it is the only orchestra model in the series. It comes with natural colored body finished in gloss. Nickel-plated butterbean tuners and grained ivoroid binding complement this color scheme. East Indian rosewood is used for back and sides, while the solid spruce is used for the top. Tortoise shell pickguard sits on the top. Ebony bridge has a compensated TUSQ saddle and is matched with an ebony fingerboard. 20 frets and 1.75" wide bone nut are featured on it. Martin D-18E Retro is the second dread in the series and it comes with a non-cutaway design variant. This one is the most affordable model of the series with price tag set at $3,399. Others are significantly pricier, with D-45 reaching to almost $12,000. D-18E has back and side panels made of east Indian rosewood and top made of solid spruce. Tortoise binding and tortoise shell pickguard complete the tortoise theme on this model. Bridge is a standard one, ebony-made and equipped with a compensated TUSQ saddle. Fishman supplies F1 Aura Plus system for the electronics department. Hardwood neck is equipped with modified low oval profile and dovetail joint. 20 frets and 1.75" wide bone nut complete the ebony fingerboard. Martin HD-28E Retro is the fourth and currently final model of the series. It is a non-cutaway dreadnought guitar. It has the same price as the OM-28E Retro, $4,499. They are somewhat pricier than D-18, while the D-45 holds the series` record wit MSRP set at $11,999. HD-28E comes with solid east Indian rosewood back and side panels which are covered with a solid spruce top. Grained ivoroid binding, tortoise shell pickguard and nickel-plated butterbean tuners complement the natural color and high gloss finish. Ebony neck with compensated TUSQ saddle is matched with ebony fingerboard with 20 frets and 1.75" wide bone nut. Neck is made of hardwood and Fishman F1 Aura Plus system is found in electronics area.
