Fender`s Standard series receives two new models with satin finishes, while the Artist series family welcomes Wilko Johnson in it`s ranks.
Fender is, along Gibson, Washburn and Gretsch, one of the most important manufacturers of guitars and basses in the world, as well as in the United States. With iconic guitars and basses such as Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, Jazzmaster and others, Fender can not be omitted from the list of elite manufacturers. Their catalog is big and wide, offering probably the widest palette of stunning stringed instruments. For summer 2013, Standard series got refreshed with Standard Telecaster Satin and Standard Stratocaster Satin models. Artist series also got stronger for one more legend. Wilko Johnson Signature Telecaster is made in honor of one of Britain`s most influential guitarists from the proto-punk era.
Fender Standard Stratocaster Satin is the first of two Standard series updates presented in this review. It comes with a standard double-cut alder body and maple neck. Flat-top body and C-shaped neck are joined via the classic bolt-on joint. All four color schemes, which are available for the Standard Stratocaster Satin, are finished in urethane gloss. regular Tremolo bridge is installed on the top, along with the black pickguard, black Standard series single-coil pickups and black control knobs. 21-fret fingerboards can be made either of rosewood, or maple. Fender Standard Telecaster Satin is a novelty for the 2013 lineup of the Standard series. Pretty much, it shares the specs and features with the Stratocaster Satin, along some of the distinctly Telecaster features. Modernized variant of the Tele bridge and Standard Series Tele single-coils are great examples of Tele`s own style and features. Body is solid, flat and single-cut. It`s made of alder and it`s paired with a bolted maple neck. 21-fret fingerboards for all four color options are made of rosewood. Fender Wilko Johnson Signature Telecaster is the only signature model introduced and reviewed in this article. It is dedicated to one of the best and most influential British guitarists from 1960s and 1970s, Wilko Johnson. It is a classic Telecaster guitar with vintage styling and tone. Alder body is clad in black paint and topped with a red plastic pickguard. The pickups installed on the top are featured in S/S configuration and offer a wide range of possibilities.
