Down-sized guitars are primarily intended for children and people of short stature. Also, there is a growing market of players who genuinely prefer down-scaled guitars over full-sized ones. Yamaha`s F series offers one such model. JR1 comes with 21-1/2" scale length. It comes with a concert shape without cutaways. Back and sides on this model are made of nato wood, while the top is made of the most standard wood, the spruce. Top is bound in black binding and finished in gloss. Also, it features a single circle rosette and tortoise shell pickguard. Bridge on this model is made of rosewood, while the neck is made of nato wood, same as body sides and back. Fingerboard is made of rosewood and it comes with 20 small frets.
