CF-140SCE is perfectly formulated to give the absolute maximum in the under $500 class. Single-cut folk body is compact and comfortable, but manages to deliver a dreadnought-sized tone projection. This is due to the scalloped X bracing underneath the sound board and the smart tonewood selection. Back and sides are made of laminated mahogany, while the top is solid spruce. Fixed rosewood bridge rocks a Fishman Presys piezo pickup beneath the compensated sadddle. Mounted on the side, active preamp with an on-board tuner completes the electronics unit. Mahogany neck is attached at the 14th fret and features the regular profile in the back. On its top, there is a rosewood fingerboard with 20 standard frets, dot inlays and 1.69" wide synthetic bone nut. Set of die-cast tuners is installed on the standard headstock.

Of the 3 guitars I have purchased over the years for under $500, this is hands down the winner. Great sound and playability. The 1.69 nut width with the "C" shaped neck is very similar to a hard body electric; it just a bit narrow for my large hand and stubby fingers, but this is a great guitar for both seasoned players and beginners alike. I recently stepped up to a Taylor 510e for its retro look, larger nut width, and larger size and side by side the Fender holds its own. The sound of the Taylor is deeper and richer, and for me easier to play, but the price is 5 to 8 times higher. So, if you are looking for a solid sounding guitar for under $500, look no further.
