EB basses are, along with the Thunderbird and SG, the third most important bass line i the Gibson catalog. Over the years, many famous players have played the EB basses and these flat-top double-cuts have appeared on many landmark recordings. For 2014, the cult EB line is being reinforced by two models and EB Bass 4-String is one of them. It comes wits a solid and double-cut body made of swamp ash. Back in the 1950s, before the mahogany was adopted as the brand`s favorite body wood, swamp ash (and korina) reigned supremely over the Gibson catalog. Today, however, mahogany is the sheriff in the town. Solid swamp ash gives a strong and deep tone and the EB contour is one of the most ergonomical ones in the industry. Standard hardtail bridge with top-load construction is fronted with a pair of full-sized humbuckers. Pickups are active and feature Alnico V magnets. Two volume knobs have push/pull switches (coil-splitting) and also act as the pickup switch. Master tone knob completes the controls unit. Maple neck is set in through the standard mortise & tenon joint and is topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Grover`s Shamrock tuners complete the major specs list. The MSRP for 2014 EB Bass 4-String is set at $1,089.
