When the Studio tag is attached next to a particular model`s name in Gibson and Epiphone catalogs, it means less decoration, less flash and more performance for the bucks. Dot Studio is no exception to this rule. Even though stripped down, Dot studio is still a gorgeous double-cut. It`s body is made entirely of mahogany and it`s equipped with set-in neck joint. Black binding and dual "f" holes decorate the top. Color palette contains five options with satin finishes. Black tune-o-matic bridge is accompanied by a black stoptail bar. The rest of the hardware is also black. Vintage Alnico V pickups have open-coil design and standard set of controls. Set maple neck has standard back contour and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on top.

I bought my Dot Studio (in worn cherry) from an aging country cat who could no longer play due to advancing arthritis...paid $225 for it with a hard case, didn't haggle with dude as he seemed like it was breaking his heart to liquify is arsenal. I had my eye on this particular axe since day one, and when I saw this one listed on craigslist I jumped at the opportunity! It's a killer rock and roll machine, the bridge pickup is hot hot hot! yet still very clear and articulate, the neck pickup is much mellower and smoother, not quite as loud but they blend nicely. The neck on this guitar is pure magic, it feels substantial yet super fast...the perfect combination of girth and fleet playability (especially since I have what has been called "spider fingers"...they're way too long to be considered a part of normal human anatomy lol). The body, with its satin worn cherry finish, is gorgeous...even moreso since I cleaned it up and gave it a rub down with Scott's Liquid Gold. It now has a satiny sheen that looks AMAZING under stage lights! Overall, I give the Dot STudio an A+++++, for the price you will NEVER find a better guitar and it holds up well next to guitars that are five or six times more expensive. A must have for anyone who feels the need for an ES style guitar but doesn't feel the need to drop a couple mortgage payments to get one!
