Emperor Swingster model is now upgraded to Emperor Swingster Black Royale and enlisted into the Black Royale Collection made by Epiphone. This series consists of six electric guitars: Les Paul Standard, Wildkat, ES-339 PRO, Riviera Custom P-93, Dot and Emperor Swingster. Ultra elegant looks and vintage tone are combined with supreme craftsmanship on the models of this series. Epiphone`s signature level of quality can be seen in every aspect of these models. Emperor Swingster is probably the most vintage one, as it sports a pair of Swingbucker pickups, which besides being humbuckers, have another role, they are a time machine of sorts made to bring back the feel and taste of '50s and '60s. Split volume and tone controls are accompanied by a three-way toggle pickup switch. These pickups can be split through push-pull switches mounted on volume pots. Bridge section is equipped with tune-o-matic bridge and Bigsby vibrato tailpiece in the back. This construction is backed up by a trapezoid tailpiece. All hardware parts on this model are plated in nickel. Body is made of laminated flamed maple back and sides and spruce sound board. Silver sparkle bining, silver pickguard and a pair of "f" holes are installed on the top. Neck is made of mahogany and it sports a 1960s slim taper contour with glued-in joint. Rosewood-made fingerboard has 22 medium jumbo frets, pearloid block inlays, 1-11/16" string nut and 12" radius.

The first one I received, from American Musical Supply, had an electrical problem. With intermittent sound and no sound on the push pull pots. AMS replaced it with no problem and the replacement was excellnet in every respect. Reminds me of my Gretsch 5120; but, much beefier and with more variety in tones. Finish and fit are excellent and the only thing I could have asked for was a hard case, which, according to Gibson/Epiphone is the 940. Do not listen to what the retailers tell you as each one told me a different case. With this one, you do not have to remove the tremolo bar and it is a nice snug fit.
