Viper was born over fifty years ago as SG (short for Solid Guitar), in a small town called Kalamazoo. It quickly rose to prominence and headed the hard rock revolution of the sixties and seventies. Many of the brands adopted, changed and perfected the twin-horn design, adding their own touches and modifications. One of those brands was ESP. ESP shifted the waist, as well as the lower horn, a bit back and thus creating the iconic Viper. Viper-401 is one of two LTD Vipers ESP has introduced at 2016 winter NAMM. This is a solid guitar with 24-3/4" scale, active electronics and set neck.
Viper-401`s beveled body is made of mahogany, as is the glued-in neck. This all-mahogany base is countered with a 24-fret fingerboard made of rosewood (LTD`s 400 models do not have access to ebony fingerboards, rosewood and maple are the only options). The fingerboard features 1.65" molded nut, flag inlays and 13.77" radius.
Pickups section is outfitted with the most popular active humbucker combination - EMG`s 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck. Hot and growling bite of the 81 provides perfect rhythm tone, while the 85 offers chiming, sparkling lead tones. Master volume, master tone and a three-way toggle switch comprise the controls. Two-piece hardtail bridge and LTD tuners close the specs list.
