The legendary Spaceman is coming back to the Gibson Custom tribe. The last visit was a couple of years ago with the Budokan Les Paul, a guitar which replicated the actual one Ace played live on stage at Budokan in 1977. This time around, Mr Frehley and Gibson Custom have joined forces to replicate Ace`s own 1959 LP Standard. The result is more than stunning, a stellar six-string almost unintelligible from the original (both sonically, and visually). Speaking of visual resemblance, the Ace Frehley 1959 Les Paul Standard has a thin coat of hand-applied finish. It comes in two variants - the aged and the VOS version of the "Dirty Lemon" burst. Back and sides on both versions are left in natural color. Body is made of a single piece of mahogany (as all LP models in 2015, this one comes with medium weight body, which roughly translates to around seven pounds per body), with a two-piece flamed maple cap on the top. Top is, of course bound in the classic creme binding and fit with a white plastic pickguard. Now, the pickups combo is a bit unorthodox, as Ace went for a shrewd blend of a Custom Bucker in the rhythm position, along with a Burst Bucker #3 in the lead position (rhythm is neck and lead is bridge position in Gibson dictionary). Standard controls unit and a standard two-piece bridge are also there. One-piece mahogany neck is attached to the body through a traditional mortise & tenon joint, and is fit with the historically precise `59 profile. Rosewood fingerboard on top has 22 standard-sized frets, trapezoid inlays and a 1-1/16" wide nylon nut. The MSRP is set at whooping $8,099.
