Collector`s Choice #10 Tom Scholz 1968 Les Paul is a true gem among the replica and vintage guitars. It comes with virtually identical look, feel and tone as Tom`s Les Paul has. Besides the standard work done by Gibson Custom luthiers, this model has also received a super special 20th anniversary treatment, which includes period correct materials and appointments made faithfully down to the smallest detail. Tom`s original guitar was Gibson 1968 Les Paul Goldtop, but Tom stripped the top down to the natural maple and sealed it in nitrocellulose lacquer. Also, he replaced the original bridge pickup with DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucker, while leaving the Gibson P-90 in the neck position. The third major modification was made on the headstock, where the Kluson tuners got replaced by Schaller M6, which were very popular during the 1970s. Collector`s Choice #10 comes with a non-chambered mahogany body with two-piece plain maple top. It is bound in classic creme binding and offered with natural top with dark back. Entire body is finished in gloss, as well as the back of the neck. Carved top features mounting holes for the missing pickguard, just like on Tom`s original LP. ABR-1tune-o-matic bridge is backed up by a lightweight aluminum stoptail bar. DiMarzio Super Distortion is installed in the bridge, while the original Gibson P-90 is in the neck. Separate volume and tone knobs are accompanied by a three-way toggle pickup switch. Set in mahogany neck features the same contour as the original model. On it`s top Gibson Custom installs a one-piece rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets and trapezoid inlays. 12" radius and 1-11/16" wide nylon nut complete the fingerboard. Schaller M6 tuners are installed on the headstock in the classic 3+3 pattern.
