Ever since it`s inception in the 1960s, Firebird has been a favorite of many a influential players. They might have played different genres of blues/rock/metal, but they all had unmatched intensity and huge tone. The brightest example is late Johnny Winter, a blueser who could easily stand on his own against hard rock and metal guitarists with the tone his beloved Firebirds created. For 2015, Gibson refreshes the cult six-stringer with several new and improved appointments. The solid and single-cut body made of mahogany wings remains unchanged. It is made of low density wood to decrease the burden on the player`s shoulders, without compromising the strength and the sustain of the tone. Central part of the body is occupied by the neck with through-body construction. Simple two-piece bridge unit on the top is fronted by a pair of minibucker pickups with a classic Gibson controls unit. Mahogany/walnut neck is made of nine pieces of wood and it rocks the classic slim taper contour, the one that changed it all in the `60s. Thick and wide rosewood fingerboard has 22 frets with trapezoid inlays and an adjustable 1.79" wide brass nut. The MSRP is set at $2,099.
