GRG is the GIO variant of the cult RG series. It is, quite possibly, the best superstrat series in the beginner section of the market. 2015 edition of the NAMM Show features several GRG updates and the flashy GRG121SP is one of them. With it`s black-clad body and leopard pickguard, it screams `80s, it screams Motley Crue, Def Leppard and Wasp. Solid and double-cut poplar body is one of several features which set it apart from the other GRG121 (DX model, to be exact). Classic RG construction guarantees a supremely easy access to the upper frets and great ergonomics. Fixed bridge on top rocks the string-through-body construction which enables easy string change and improved sustain. Despite being the beginner series model, GRG121SP packs quite a serious punch with the Infinity R humbuckers with open coil design. Master volume, master tone and a three-position blade switch comprise the controls. Fast and slim GRG neck is made of maple (Ibanez`s favorite neck material) and features glossy finish. Fingerboard on it`s top is fit with a now standard set of 24 jumbo-sized frets with dot inlays. Considering the fact that it costs around $200, GRG121SP will give any beginner, and even lower intermediate class guitar a run for it`s money with it`s poplar/maple construction, flashy looks, fantastic weight balance and mighty Infinity tone.
