For 2013, PRS is introducing a whole new range of affordable guitars, the S2 series. This series is not what is usually considered affordable and budget-friendly, it is more what PRS Custom budget-friendly is. Prices for these models are well over $1,000, but when compared to the main models, these do turn out affordable. Also, they are not really stripped down, but when compared to the main series, the difference is obvious. The whole point and the idea behind this series is to make the genuine PRS playability and tone affordable and available to a wider scope of players. S2 Custom 24 is an all-mahogany guitar made of mahogany body and mahogany neck. Top of the body is fit with a maple cover with beveled edges, instead of the classic carved contour, the models from the main collection have. Bridge is a non-locking vibrato, which is also a close cousin to the main series vibratos. S2 Treble (bridge) and Bass (neck) humbuckers are installed in the front an they come with a classic controls unit (volume, tone and three-position blade switch). Set in mahogany neck is fit with the classic pattern contour in the back. 24-fret fingerboard is made of rosewood and it features the standard bird inlays. Tuners on the headstock are made by PRS. The MSRP is set at $1,399.
