I have always been a single coil guy and have used a strat and tele w/p-90 I finally came around to the idea of a humbucker equipped guitar. After 23 years i succumbed. ha ha Having worked in a music store I had the chance to try them all: Gibson, Ibanez, Hamer and was willing to spend a good chunk of cash on one. This awesome axe was the stand out. i had my eye on a Gibson les paul double cut and never really considered the santana, but while tuning one up for a customer to try out I realized what a gem it was. It is almost ridiculous how nice it is for the money. I ended up with this and spent half the amount of money and dd not lose a thing as far as quality, sound, playability or looks. It just feels great in your hands, the pickups, trem, and machine heads are all a++ the neck and fret work are killer and plays like butter. The finish and wood laminate on a maple top is really nice, its not a photo sticker laminate its an actual piece of curly maple stuck on to the maple top. The mohagany body, when you look close can see that its three pieces, but the grain and finish are great not cheezy wood by any means. the trem stays in tune for my purposes. The top has subtle carve to it, not as defined as the gibson or the High end version of this model but nice. my only criticizm is that the trem bar dosent really snap or screw in it just rests in there and there is the slightest bit of movement before it moves the trem, it wiggles in the hole just a bit but enough to affect the use as i dont dive bomb but use it more for a slight vibrato which needs the bar to fit snug in the trem bar hole. Im really nitpicking with this but it is my only critique. I dipped the trem bar end in some silver paint a layer at a time till it widened enough to fit snug and problem solved 3 dips is all it took. the pickups are full and santana-ish, and the volume is smooth and the tone control actually has a significant effect on things. The pickups clean up great when you back off the volume. I play thru a H&K Puretone amp, Its a class A EL 34 combo that is unforgiving with lesser quality guitars and this guitar passed with flying colors. PRS SE Santana is a keeper, low end model or not i wont regret buying this guitar or the 750.00 i saved on not being picky what the headstock said.
