Five decade anniversary is quite a milestone in the guitar industry, as only a handful of brands have ever reached it. Also, there are not many brands out there over fifty years old and still running. But, in 2015, Alvarez joins the silver anniversary club with the sublime 1965 series named in honor of the series of affordable and innovative guitars released in 1965 by St. Louis Music (this new series would go on to become Alvarez Guitars). The series is made up of four models: ADA 1965, ARDA 1965, APA 1965 and AFA 1965. They feature pretty uniform specs lists, fully acoustic construction, non-cutaway design, and Sunburst color scheme. These affordable, elegant and exceptionally well made steel-strings also feature the same price tag – they cost $749.
Alvarez ADA1965 is a full-sized dreadnought with square shoulders, series standard Sunburst color scheme and combined chrome/abalone decorations and hardware. Acacia body is topped with a spruce soundboard, while the mahogany neck sports a rosewood fingerboard. Alvarez ARDA1965 comes with a slope-shoulder dreadnought body clad in the series standard Sunburst color scheme, and decorated with abalone binding around the top. Acacia back/sides, spruce sound board and rosewood bridge comprise the non-cutaway body. Mahogany neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard and die-cast tuners are also there. Alvarez APA1965 is the only parlor shaped guitar in the series lineup. It features a shorter scale (24”), and a 12th fret neck joint. Alvarez AFA1965 comes as the only OM/Folk guitar in the lineup.
