With Brian Setzer and Chet Atkins models taking up six spots in the lineup, and one expensive New Yorker in the acoustic segment, Gretsch primarily aims at professionals, collectors and die-hard fans this year.
With a largely polarized lineup of 2015 novelties, Gretsch puts an emphasis on the electric guitar section this year. To be accurate, on the Professional Collection range. Six of eight new models belong to this majestic series, and the ratio is Four Brian Setzer models with two Chet Atkins models. All of them come with some unique features, exclusive construction and classic Nashville design. G6136SLBP Brian Setzer Black Phoenix, G6120S Brian Setzer Nashville (one of two introduced models available in multiple color options), G6120SSULH Brian Setzer Nashville (left-hand guitar) and G6120SH Brian Setzer Hot Rod (also available in multiple color variants) are Brian Setzer models. G6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body and G6122-12 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman 12-String are Chet Atkins tribute models. Roots series is updated with G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup model, while the G5013CE Rancher Jr updates the Acoustic Collection.
The first of four Brian Setzer models for 2015 is G6135LBP Brian Setzer Black Phoenix. It comes with a fully hollow Falcon body made entirely of laminated maple. G6120S Brian Setzer Nashville is one of two multi-colored models (it comes in four different options) made for Brian Setzer this year. It is a single-cut and fully hollow Nashville guitar, with all-maple construction, and vintage hardware and styling. G6120SSULH Brian Setzer Nashville is the only left-handed model among this year`s novelties. It comes with a completely identical specs list as its right-handed twin. The only difference, though, is the selection of color options. While the right-handed model has four, the lefty version is available only in Orange scheme with urethane gloss finish. G6120SH Brian Setzer Hot Rod is the fourth Brian Setzer model for 2014 and the second one with a multi-colored palette - Harbor Blue, Highland Green, Tuxedo Black and Roman Red comprise it. This simple single-cut Nashville guitar comes with a hollow body made of maple, set maple neck, Brian Setzer signature pickups and a 22-fret ebony fingerboard. After four Brian Setzer models, we have a pair of Chet Atkins hollow-bodies. The first one is G6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body in Cadillac Green. This is an update, more than a new model, of the popular G6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body introduced several years ago. The materials, construction and design are largely intact, save for the dashing color scheme and the hardware plating. For a more comprehensive and informative review, check the Chet Atkins Hollow Body detail page on our site or Gretsch Guitars web page.
The only twelve-string model in the lineup is not an acoustic, but electric guitar. Named G6122-12 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman 12-String, this marvelous double-cut is one of the most exclusive Professional Collection models. All-maple body, maple neck, Filter`Tron pickups with an elaborate controls unit, Grover tuners and 22-fret ebony fingerboard are among the key features. The only Roots Collection model introduced at this year`s NAMM is the magnificent G9555 New Yorker Archtop with Pickup. This vintage-styled acoustic rocks the non-cutaway New Yorker body made of laminated maple and solid spruce. On its top, Gretsch installs one of the most peculiar contraptions seen at this year`s NAMM - a custom made and custom wound pickup with a rubberized magnet. The closing spot of the review section belongs to the most affordable guitar on the roster – the single-cut G5013CE Rancher Jr. This is an acoustic-electric version of the previously introduced G5013 Rancher Jr model. It comes with an all-mahogany body, mahogany neck, Fishman electronics (Isys preamp, Sonicore pickup) and a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard.
