Songwriter series was introduced back in 2003 and instantly became a regular member of Gibson`s acoustic lineup. 2017 lineup features three new models, non-cutaway Studio, Cutaway Progressive and this one. Studio EC is the middle one, coming in at $2,899. Basically, EC is identical to the regular Studio, but with a cutaway (and Fishman electronics). This means rosewood (back, sides) and spruce body (Sitka spruce, 2-piece) with multi-ply binding, tortoise pickguard and abalone rosette. The neck`s made of a single piece of mahogany and has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard on top (also a one-piece). Antique Natural (w/gloss lacquer finish) is the only color option. Main hardware and electronics features include Fishman PreFix T pickup (mounted on the rib), side preamp (w/tuner), contoured rosewood bridge (Tusq saddle) and gold-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners.
