Ibanez, like many other guitar brands involved into the production of acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars, offers a majority of models with standardized tonewood combinations, such as mahogany/spruce/rosewood, mahogany/cedar/rosewood, maple/mahogany, etc. Selected few brands, including Ibanez, have models and series of models dedicated to the exploration and use of various exotic tonewoods. AEW is the exotic tonewood series in Ibanez catalog. For 2014, Ibanez has introduced three models into this series and AEW21VK is one of them. It comes with a special AEW body made of ovangkol back and sides and spruce sound board. Binding around the top and back, as well as the central strip on the back panel, are made of rosewood. Natural-colored AEW21VK is finished in gloss and fit with chrome-plated hardware. Bridge on the top is made of rosewood and it rocks the Fishman Sonicore pickup beneath the saddle. On the side of the body, facing the player, Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp is installed. IT features volume and tone controls and a digital tuner. Mahogany neck is attached to the body with a 14th fret dovetail joint and it sports a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard on the top.
